Seen some people critiquing the AI gaming decomp craze as "slop" because they're claiming that the creations have no staying power because every day is a new wondrous marvel and people have become desensitized. This is a valid observation but it doesn't make something slop. Right now people are in the experimentation phase. They've just been handed a new tool. Like the Gods who gave man fire, they want to use it, play, try new things, "lovebomb" flood the internet with their creations... all of that goes away. in weeks and months all of the same frontier experimenters move on to whatever the latest thing is, and the real creatives who are the actual "builders" who really care about gaming (or whatever the category) stay. Then you get the AI games with the actual stories, original creations, more thought through projects with longevity, etc. But the observation that things have been commoditized is totally real, valid, and accurate. Art in general has become increasingly disposable, the shelf life of content has gone from unforgettable games, movies, music, you remember your whole life and pass down to your children, to art you can't even remember tomorrow. That has been the price of the democratization of creation and distribution. The world will increasingly be micro... no not even... more like nano, pico niches. What this ultimately means, no idea. Maybe things really will lose all meaning. And then what?
