What starts with paint can lead to lasting change. Through our #AsphaltArt# Initiative, @KansasCity transformed a dangerous intersection with temporary murals and street redesigns. After average traffic speeds dropped by 45% and the percentage of pedestrians who felt safe tripled, the city made the temporary redesign permanent - showing how creative ideas can become lasting solutions for safer streets.

Mosquitoes may be small, but the diseases they carry have an enormous impact. 🦟 This #WorldMosquitoDay#, hear from Dr. George Dimopoulos of @JohnsHopkinsSPH and Dr. Chris Potter of @HopkinsMedicine about how mosquito research has evolved, and how scientists at @JHMRImalaria are exploring new ways to stop the transmission of malaria and other deadly diseases. From studying how mosquitoes find us to investigating genetically modified mosquitoes that can block malaria infection, research is helping bring new solutions within reach.

A new space for big ideas is coming to Boston. Opening October 10, the William and Charlotte Bloomberg Public Science Common at the @museumofscience will offer immersive, interactive scientific experiences—including deep dives into urgent issues like AI, climate change, and space exploration—and conversations with leading scientists.

Back to school—and a head start on a career. 🛠️📚 In nine communities across the U.S., students are preparing for careers in the skilled trades by combining classroom learning with hands-on training and paid work experience. By connecting students with career opportunities and employers with the workers they need, our skilled trades initiative is helping create stronger pathways from high school to the workforce.

Heat-resistant basketball courts. Protection against the next flood. Neighbors learning to compost block by block. Today, 300 local governments are calling on young residents to lead the next generation of climate action in their communities—and backing the boldest ideas with funding and city hall support from start to finish. That’s the Youth Climate Action Fund, a model already proven by 98 municipalities and more than 300,000 young people. Now, a new wave of mayors is putting those lessons to work and pushing progress even further.

In Rwanda, efforts to expand their data-gathering capacity enabled public health officials to better identify and track leading causes of death nationwide — and then take action to save lives. This month, the 10th class of @BHCityLeaders began their work—46 mayors from 15 countries who together lead more than 22 million residents. The next generation of healthcare workers is preparing for their careers today. Not all roles in the industry require a four-year degree - with the right training, young people can get started today on their future careers. That’s why Bloomberg Philanthropies has helped to create 13 new healthcare-focused high schools in 9 states. Through partnerships with local healthcare systems, public schools and post-secondary institutions, students have access to specialized classes, work-based learning at hospitals, and the opportunity to earn credentials and certifications. It was great to bring principals, teachers, healthcare leaders, employers and administrators together from these schools in New York this week to learn from each other.

There may be an “i” in bike, but there’s certainly no “i” in team. For this year’s Intern Day of Service, @Bloomberg and @BloombergDotOrg interns from New York and New Jersey came together at @ArmoryNYC, in partnership with @bikenewyork, to accomplish one goal: help more kids and families experience the joy and opportunity that come with riding a bike. 480 bikes later, these interns proved what can happen when a team gets their wheels turning and builds something bigger than themselves.
