Let's turn DeFi United into an Endowment
Massive credit to
@StaniKulechov, putting his money where his mouth is and generating a movement to cover Kelp/LZ hack loses. It's admirable to see the community rally together to make depositors whole. A lot of thanks are in order but I would like to focus on something else for a moment.

How can we take advantage of this opportunity to propose something that this not just a one-time thing but possible a paradigm shift for our industry?
I propose that DeFi United be converted into the (first?) Blockchain Endowment.
Endowments are pools of assets donated to institutions like universities, museums, and non-profits. These assets are invested in very low-risk portfolios with hundred year time horizons. Part of the yearly returns are used to fund scholarships, salaries, and other works for the institution. Meanwhile, the principle is never used. So what you get is the power of compound interest to fund different initiatives over time.
The Harvard University Endowment may be the most famous of all. It started in the 1600s, today it is worth $56B USD. It is used to pay scholarships, salaries, expansions, etc.
My proposal for the Blockchain Endowment is that the initial donations be pooled together and staked for passive returns + network security. Furthermore, companies may commit a % of their yearly revenue to the endowment and in-exchange they can become eligible for future credit facilities from said Endowment.
Obviously there are many complexities to running an endowment but this is just an idea and a dream, hopefully one day to be reality.
