When they wrote the athanasian creed and they were talking about the catholic faith you have to keep to be saved they were talking about lutheranism
That number comes from the World Christian Encyclopedia. They count every independent church, mission network, and the same tradition separately in every country as its own โdenomination.โ By that method, the Roman Catholic Church itself is counted as 242 denominations ;)

@JoshuaBarzon This is the subject that started my journey from Baptist to Confessional Lutheran. All Christian writings from the apostles until the (heretical) anabaptists in the 1500s teach baptismal regeneration. Baptism is GODS work, not ours. Verses in comments below. History is unanimous
