STARLINK: Ignacio Madero, co-founder and CTO at Tera Rent, and team handled the European Space Agency’s live broadcast of the August 12th total solar eclipse from the Javalambre Astrophysical Observatory in Spain. The observatory is at 2,000 meters altitude, where there is no cellular coverage. So they used four Starlink units and a Peplink MAX Orbit 4 router for redundancy. TESLA: Brookshire, TX, Megafactory, August 8th, 2026 The Megafactory produced its first Megapack 3 last week and ran over to see. I did not see the Megapack, but I did see a tons of newly delivered boxes of equipment. Half of the southern fence line had large crates in rows covering the lot. More foundation work for the large stainless tanks was taking place. The refurbished entrances on the north fence line are complete. STARLINK: Using SpaceX’s public high-resolution ephemeris data (position and velocity vectors) from roughly 1,200 Starlink satellites, Kyoto University researcher Mamoru Yamamoto published "Tomography of thermospheric density from Starlink Ephemeris: initial report" on July 30th in Earth, Planets and Space. At 482 km altitude and 53° inclination, the team measured energy loss from atmospheric drag. They applied spherical-harmonic tomography to produce the first latitude-longitude density maps of the thermosphere near 500 km for September 1–7, 2025. Results averaged 0.95 times independent ESA SWARM measurements (range 0.6–1.2 across 19 cases) and matched NRLMSIS 2.1 model features. An earlier 2026 paper by Yamamoto and Takuya Sori used TLE data and identified density spikes on October 8, 11, and 18–20, 2024, mainly tied to geomagnetic storms. Better knowledge of upper-atmosphere density lets operators predict satellite orbits more accurately and reduce the risk of collisions. SPACEX: Multiple local outlets are reporting that Elon's private jet was spotted at Lafayette, Louisiana, Regional Airport (LFT) today. The airport is about 50 miles north/east of the proposed 130,000 acres in Vermilion Parish. It is unknown if Elon was on board, but hopefully soon we hear that a deal is in place. SPACEX: An application with the St. Johns River Water Management District has been filed for an Environmental Resource Permit for "Project Ignition", a 55.35-acre Starship test facility at Kennedy Space Center. It is to be located west of Roberts Road and south/east of Schwartz Road, near the Indian River. The project includes a test stand and associated infrastructure for post-production testing of Starship, including tank tests, proof tests, spin-prime tests, and static fire tests. Think along the lines of Massey's at Starbase. Patrick Hessenius, SpaceX Starship Launch Engineering Manager, signed the financial capability certification for perpetual operations and maintenance, and SpaceX CFO Bret Johnsen authorized himself and Teresa Szakos, Kevin Holland, and Patrick as legal authorities to bind SpaceX on applications and future permits.

STARLINK: The Center of Excellence for Advanced Technology Aerial Firefighting (Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control) has deployed the Starlink connected CoE2-D2, a portable ADS-B aircraft tracking and surveillance system. It is being used at the 310 Fire in Parachute of Garfield County, Colorado. The system is housed in a Milwaukee Packout case for rapid field deployment. It features an advanced ADS-B antenna for reliable low-altitude aircraft tracking in mountainous terrain, integrated solar panels and battery for off-grid power, and a pan-tilt-zoom HD camera for remote monitoring. STARLINK: SpaceX is in the final stages of securing a Starlink license to operate in Curaçao. Minister Charles Cooper of the Ministry of Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning announced this after meeting with SpaceX Director of Starlink Global Licensing and Market Activation, Rebecca Silk Hunter. Once approved, service could begin within a few weeks. SpaceX will comply with local rules, including paying taxes, import duties, and lawful interception requirements. The rollout is expected to improve connectivity, support disaster response, education, healthcare, and provide public WiFi. Curaçao also has existing data centers. TESLA: Parking Professionals has completed an indoor parking stall project for Tesla's Cybercab/Robotaxi fleet. The project was carried out with Layton Construction and the Tesla team. Unfortunately the Location was not given... "We recently completed an indoor parking stall project for Tesla creating designated spaces for their autonomous vehicles. Instead of traditional paint, we used high-strength adhesive tape. The result: clean, professional stalls ready for Tesla’s AV fleet, all while working indoors and out of the heat. TESLA: Patent US 12,703,296 B1 has been filed by Tesla for a Global Headlamp that uses a pixelated light source that uses configuration information based on jurisdiction/homologation region, vehicle model, drive side, real-time location, and used to generate headlamp state information. The controller activates specific pixels/rows at defined intensities to output a beam pattern (low-beam or high-beam) that complies with local regulations (e.g., FMVSS for the US or ECE for Europe, including left- vs right-hand traffic cutoffs). The same hardware works worldwide; different activation patterns are selected via software/look-up tables. Secondary rules (such as high-beam + fog light combinations) are also enforced by jurisdiction. In other words, the headlights work based on the rules and regulations set by the governments the car is currently located in and will change if moved to a different area with different rules.
