The U.S. and other wealthy countries cut global health aid dramatically last year. Over the next few budget cycles, dozens of national governments will be deciding what their health systems will look like for the next decade, with far less donor money than they planned. Today we're launching our new Health Aid Transition Fund to help them get those decisions right, putting $165 million behind analysis and financing support for governments so the most cost-effective work survives the transition. And I couldn’t be more excited to have Amanda on board leading this work - she’s been high on my “to hire” list for almost a decade at this point!

We’re urgently scaling our work on AI and biosecurity. I began leading @coeff_giving’s grantmaking on AI and biosecurity 18 months ago. I think we’re at a critical moment: transformative AI may arrive soon, and the world isn’t ready for it. Over the past year and a half, we’ve been changing how we work so that we can act at the speed the situation demands. In 2024, Coefficient Giving committed $168 million across our technical AI safety, security, and fieldbuilding work. In 2025, we more than doubled that to $351 million, and this year we're on track to commit over $1 billion. In August alone, we committed $352 million across this portfolio, more than in all of 2025. Of course, our ultimate goal isn’t to move money; it’s to make progress on the most important and neglected problems in navigating transformative AI and reducing biological risk. When there are tradeoffs between moving money and having impact, we prioritize the latter. This means we expect to keep saying no to many proposals. Even so, the dollar figures are a proxy for the fact that we’re finding many opportunities we’re excited about, and saying yes to them faster than before. Today we’re launching Project Tailwind, a call for founders to start ambitious new AI safety initiatives: We’re looking for great people to engage seriously with the risks of transformative AI, and to create the research, technologies, and institutions that will help humanity navigate them. There are critical, basic problems that no one owns. Over the last several months, my team at @coeff_giving brainstormed ideas we’d be excited to fund if we could find a promising founder, and the list quickly grew to more than 200 entries. We’ve narrowed it down to our favorites, but we also expect the best founders to bring their own ideas: We’re providing funding at three levels: 1️⃣ Pre-seed: $200k to $2m to develop an idea and build a team 2️⃣ Seed: $2m to $20m to launch and scale 3️⃣ Scale: $20m to $200m+ for proven teams to scale, or world-class teams to start If you’re excited about something on our list, or you have another proposal for driving the field forward, you should get involved: There are more good projects than there are people to work on them.
