Next time you need to decline something small, don’t over explain. Don’t apologize 20 times. Say it clearly and watch what happens in the next hour. If they can stay decent while disappointed, that’s information. If the room gets colder until you fold, that’s also information and it’s usually more honest than their words.

One thing I hadn't really thought about when I first found @quipnetwork was the people building the algorithms. Quantum computing has a weird problem. There are brilliant researchers working on new algorithms, but a lot of that work never becomes something ordinary companies can actually use. Part of the reason is pretty obvious. The hardware is expensive. The infrastructure is complicated. And there isn't always a clear way for someone who creates a useful algorithm to keep benefiting from it after the research is published. Quip is trying to create a different incentive. Developers can build solvers for real problems, publish them into the network, and potentially earn when those solvers are actually used. That changes the motivation quite a bit. Instead of building something impressive and hoping a company notices it, the algorithm itself can become part of an open marketplace. A logistics company might need a better routing solution. A financial firm might need portfolio optimization. A researcher might need a difficult simulation. If your solver is useful, there is a reason for someone to use it. And I think this could become one of the more important parts of @quipnetwork over time. Quantum hardware alone doesn't create an ecosystem. You need people constantly figuring out what to do with it. If Quip can make that work economically, then the network isn't just connecting computers. It's connecting the people who know what those computers should be doing.
