The maritime transport industry represents one of the fundamental pillars of the global economy and, like many other sectors, is facing numerous challenges linked to the clean transition, where innovation and advanced technologies are essential to strengthen resilience, efficiency and sustainability. During the Sustainability Week, our Chief Innovation and Information Technology Officer, Paolo Cerioli, shared our perspective on the opportunities connected to nuclear propulsion for the maritime industry, highlighting how this technology could help enable a stronger and more reliable maritime industry through continuous propulsion power, longer endurance between refueling cycles and no local operational emissions of CO₂. He also emphasized how nuclear-powered vessels could become an opportunity to combine nuclear capabilities with maritime and shipbuilding know-how. By combining innovation, engineering and manufacturing capabilities, and maritime know-how, we reaffirm our commitment to developing technologies and solutions that support the clean transition towards a more sustainable future.

We took part in the Brussels Lunch Debate “Powering Europe’s Competitiveness: The Nuclear Opportunity – SMRs and AMRs in Strategic Industries: Maritime Applications”, held at the European Parliament in collaboration with the Kangaroo Group. The high-level dialogue brought together EU institutions and industry to discuss nuclear energy as an enabler of energy security and autonomy, decarbonisation and industrial competitiveness, as well as the opportunities and challenges related to its deployment. Massimo Debenedetti, CEO of Cetena, presented a vision for the potential application of nuclear technologies in the maritime sector. The discussion addressed the potential of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and Advanced Modular Reactors (AMRs) for long-term decarbonisation, in a context where the EU identifies maritime transport and defence among the priority sectors for SMR deployment. We contributed to the dialogue on the development and deployment of nuclear technologies, with a focus on concrete pathways for the maritime sector. The launch ceremony of Viking Astrea, the new cruise ship under construction for the cruise line Viking, took place today at our Ancona shipyard. The ceremony was attended by the Director of the Shipyard, Gilberto Tobaldi, and Ghislain Lemarie, Vice President Ship Development and Construction of Viking. With a gross tonnage of approximately 54,300 tons, a length of 239 meters, and accommodation for up to 998 passengers in 499 cabins, Viking Astrea will feature a propulsion system partially powered by liquid hydrogen and fuel cells. The project has been developed with particular attention to environmental sustainability and will enable the ship to operate with zero emissions, allowing access to environmentally sensitive marine areas. The launch of Viking Astrea confirms the role of the Ancona shipyard – where since 2009, more than 20 vessels have been delivered – and underscores the value of the collaboration between Fincantieri and Viking, began in 2012, marking another milestone in this journey that combines our shipbuilding expertise with Viking’s commitment to developing innovative solutions to bring a more sustainable future on board. @VikingCruises

We are pleased to share another important milestone for NB 984, which has successfully completed sea trials in the beautiful Norwegian surroundings. Built by our subsidiary VARD for Havbryn, the vessel is now moving closer to delivery from Vard Brattvaag. Based on the VARD 8 02 design, the 80.4-metre stern trawler has been developed for efficient and sustainable fishing operations. The unit features advanced trawling technology, an Ice-1A hull and a modern processing factory. Together with VARD, we continue to look ahead, driving innovation and supporting the evolution of a more advanced and sustainable fishing sector.

Italy and Greece today signed in Rome the Implementing Arrangement concerning the transfer, through Fincantieri, of two FREMM frigates, Carlo Bergamini and Virginio Fasan, currently in service with the Italian Navy fleet, to the Hellenic Navy. The agreement was signed between the General Directorate of Defence Investments and Armaments (GDDIA) of the Ministry of National Defence and its Italian counterpart, the Italian General Directorate for Armaments, in the presence of Italian Minister of Defence Guido Crosetto, Greek Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias, and the Chiefs of the respective Navies, Admiral Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto and Admiral Dimitrios-Eleftherios Kataras. Representing Fincantieri were our CEO Pierroberto Folgiero, and Eugenio Santagata, our General Manager of the Naval Vessels Division. The Implementing Arrangement follows the Memorandum of Cooperation and the Declaration of Intent signed in September 2025 and further strengthens relations between Italy and Greece. We will play a leading role both in the transfer process and in providing support throughout the entire lifecycle of the two vessels, while also contributing to the strengthening of industrial cooperation with Greece. Today, at our Ancona shipyard, we celebrated the launch of “Viking Libra”, the world’s first hydrogen-powered cruise ship, under construction for Viking. The ceremony was attended Gilberto Tobaldi, the Shipyard Director, and members of the Viking team. The unit will be powered by hydrogen and will have a propulsion system based partially on liquefied hydrogen and fuel cells. “Viking Libra” will be delivered at the end of 2026 by our Ancona shipyard, a site playing a strategic role in our Operations Excellence program, involving the introduction of advanced technologies, robotics and AI. With a gross tonnage of approximately 54,300 tons, a length of 239 meters, and the capacity to accommodate up to 998 passengers in 499 staterooms, “Viking Libra” has been developed with strong attention to environmental aspects. The ship will be capable of navigating and operating with zero emissions, allowing it to access even the most environmentally sensitive areas. The keel-laying ceremony for the first next-generation U212NFS destined for the Italian Navy was held today at our Muggiano shipyard, as part of the program for the construction of four submarines and the development of related logistic support, managed and entrusted to OCCAR. Delivery of the first U212NFS is scheduled for 2029. The U212NFS submarine class represents a substantial evolution compared to its U212A predecessors, thanks to greater design maturity, a higher level of national technological content, an improved integration of onboard systems and innovations developed by Italian industry — including the lithium-ion propulsion battery and the new combat system — that will ensure greater stealth, endurance, efficiency, and cyber resilience.
