On September 29, Foreign Minister @Tsahkna will visit Helsinki to meet with his Finnish counterpart @elinavaltonen and Helsinki Mayor @Dansazo. The agenda will include regional and global security and foreign policy, economic and development ties between our countries and capitals, support for Ukraine, and continued pressure on Russia.

Ukraine 🇺🇦 has opened its Honorary Consulate in Tartu, further expanding its presence in southern Estonia 🇪🇪. The new consulate will deepen ties with one of Estonia’s key regional centres and foster new opportunities for cooperation across business, tourism, culture and other fields. A Russian drone striking a logistics facility serving McDonald’s is yet another clear sign that Moscow has no interest in peace. Russia keeps attacking civilians, businesses and Ukraine’s economy in an attempt to intimidate people, disrupt everyday life and deter international companies and investors from staying engaged in Ukraine. We cannot let that work. Ukraine needs our continued support and economic pressure on Russia must be increased. The aggressor must pay a higher price for every day it chooses to continue this war.

The @coe Committee of Legal Advisers on Public International Law (CAHDI) concluded its meeting in Tallinn, chaired by our Undersecretary @KerliVeski. 🇪🇪 Discussions focused on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, accountability for the crime of aggression and compensation for the damage caused by Russia’s war. There must be no impunity for the crime of aggression. Russia’s political and military leadership must be held accountable, and Russia must compensate for the damage it has caused. We must move swiftly to make the Special Tribunal operational and advance work on the International Claims Commission for Ukraine. 🇺🇦

Together with my Estonian colleague @Tsahkna and NB8 foreign ministers, we discussed what we want the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2027 in Tallinn to deliver. Thank you to Estonia for taking the lead. URC 2027 should be about decisions, agreements, and projects — especially in defence, energy resilience, and critical infrastructure. A winter conference is also a reminder of reality — Russia continues to weaponize cold and attack Ukraine’s energy system. We want URC 2027 to advance the transition from military assistance to a long-term security partnership, with a strong focus on expanding joint defence production, developing new Drone Deals with Ukraine, and advancing our anti-ballistic coalition. These practical initiatives will strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities while contributing directly to the security of Europe as a whole. The NB8 has already provided Ukraine with over €42 billion in military, financial, and humanitarian support. This gives us a strong foundation to make Tallinn a genuine NB8–Ukraine effort and bring more governments and businesses on board. Recovery is not about restoring the Ukraine Russia tried to destroy. It is about building the Ukraine Russia will never be able to destroy — stronger, more resilient, secure, and prosperous. Thank you, Estonia and all our NB8 friends, for helping us build it.

What happens when Estonians really love a book? It turns into a cabbage. 🥬 Well, at least in our language. A book read so many times that it becomes worn, soft and frayed is “loetud kapsaks” – literally, “read into a cabbage”. Now the expression has been cast in bronze: a giant cabbage at the Estonian National Library, soon to be unveiled as the “Monument to Books Worn to Shreds”. Only in Estonia? 🇪🇪
