First, let’s correct something: infertility is not only a female issue. Men can experience infertility too. In women, causes can include problems with ovulation, blocked fallopian tubes, PCOS, endometriosis, fibroids, hormonal problems and age-related changes in egg quality. In men, it can be caused by low sperm count, poor sperm movement, abnormal sperm shape, hormonal issues, varicocele, infections and certain medical conditions. Sometimes, both partners may have factors affecting fertility, and sometimes no clear cause is found. So please, when a couple is struggling to conceive, don’t automatically blame the woman. Both partners should be properly evaluated. And instead of calling someone “barren,” let’s use the medically appropriate term: infertility.
