A senior at the University of New Haven, he was assistant captain of the club hockey team, president of his Kappa Sigma chapter, and an NYPD intern who dreamed of wearing the badge himself one day. Just before midnight on October 16, driving home from a hockey game, Oโ€™Shea was hit head-on on I-91 in North Haven, Connecticut, by a pickup truck ๐›๐š๐ซ๐ซ๐ž๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฐ๐ซ๐จ๐ง๐  ๐ฐ๐š๐ฒ down the highway. The impact spun his car into oncoming lanes, where it was struck twice more. He was pronounced dead at the scene. State police identified the driver as 31-year-old Guillermo Carmona-Lopez. DHS says heโ€™s a Mexican national who was arrested by Border Patrol in 2013, issued a final order of removal, deported โ€” and quietly re-entered the country at an unknown time and place. UNH retired Oโ€™Sheaโ€™s No. 5 jersey on the ice. Friends remember the infectious laugh, the guy whoโ€™d push your buttons for 30 minutes just to crack a smile out of you, who always put everyone else first. Connecticut State Police say the investigation is still open. What isnโ€™t open to debate: a man the government had already ordered out of this country โ€” twice โ€” was still driving on an American highway the night he took a 21-year-oldโ€™s life. PREVENTABLE: Ryan O'Shea was 21 years old. He was a college hockey captain who interned with the NYPD and dreamed of wearing the badge. He was killed on Connecticut's I-91 when a pickup truck going the WRONG WAY hit his car head-on. State police identified the driver as Guillermo Carmona-Lopez, a Mexican national. DHS says he was removed from the country in 2013, got a FINAL ORDER of removal, and came back anyway. DHS called it "a completely avoidable tragedy." Ryan should be alive. Enforce the law.
