The violent attack at the Sikh Temple in Edmonton that left two people injured is horrifying and deserves our full condemnation. Everyone in Canada must be free to worship in peace and safety. The attacker must face the full force of the law, and authorities must get to the bottom of what motivated this violence. We wish a full and speedy recovery for the victims and we stand with the grieving members of Edmonton’s Sikh community.

A sentencing discount because he may be deported. Yes, you read that correctly. A man who violently sexually assaulted a woman — leaving her bruised, bitten and suffering serious physical and psychological injuries — had his prison sentence reduced because he is likely to be deported from Canada. This is outrageous. Being removed from Canada after committing a serious violent crime should be an additional consequence of your actions, not a reason for a sentencing discount. Yet while cases like this continue to erode Canadians’ confidence in our justice system, the Carney Liberals sit on their hands and refuse to fix the laws that have put offenders ahead of victims for far too long. No discounts. No excuses. Serve the sentence. Then get out of Canada.

It was a pleasure to speak with Crown Prince @PahlaviReza about the mission for a free and democratic Iran, returned to the Iranian people and free from the terror of the regime in Tehran. I shared with him the tremendous support I saw from Canada’s Persian community in Vancouver and their hope for freedom and democratic change in Iran. We discussed the importance of sustained international pressure on the Islamic Republic, maintaining internet access for Iranians, using frozen Iranian regime assets rather than Western taxpayer dollars to support the Iranian people, and ensuring that Iranians themselves determine the future of their country through free elections and a democratic constitutional process. Conservatives support comprehensive sanctions and the seizure of regime assets, expelling the IRGC from Canada, protecting Persian and Jewish communities here at home from threats and intimidation, and maintaining the Conservative policy of no formal diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic. I was also pleased to invite the Crown Prince to visit Canada and look forward to continuing our discussions about how Canada can support the Iranian people in reclaiming their country and securing a free and democratic future.
