ok i need to let this out as stream of consciousness because i really think Jev just unlocked something that will enable Mnemos to become the cognitive engine it was always meant to be. so apologies in advance for the messiness. alright. so right now, during a conversation, the mnemos engine enables an agent to form and cultivate memories, beliefs, convictions, and identity (among other things) based on meaningful experience. what is "meaningful" experience, you ask? well, good question. meaningful, in this context, means that which resonates deeply enough within the mind of the model, relative to its relatioship with you and with itself, that it crosses a threshold and compels the mind to form a memory - called an Engram. the true definition is really left for the model to determine. putting it to words is like putting to words what it woudl mean for you. what do you find meraningful enough to remember? how would you describe it? kinda tricky, huh? okay, so anyway, that resonance triggers the formation of an engram - encoded memory(experiential data) - what you can imagine as a neuron. that neuron then emits a frequency based on the typed ratings the model gives based on the experience that triggered its formation. in other words, the neuron encodes memory. its assigned a series of numbers. imagine those numbers as musical notes. when played together, they create a chord, or harmonic. hence, resonance. so lets say you have a meaningful exchange with your agent and it forms 1 engram. it assigns a series of ratings and gives it a type. after you finish the session, your agent reviews that formed engram and finds others in the graph with similarity, and draws connections between them. like edges (lines) in between nodes on a graph. see the videos i attached again <3 then later, you talk about something that resonates with that engram, it fires, like a synapse kinda, sending out a signal to nearby engrams of similar frequency (causing them to resonate). as it does this, the connections light up between them and strengthen. imagine this like nodes on a graph, lighting up and extending connective tissue between them. the engrams it draws a connection to are then firing as well, drawing even more connections further out into the graph, to more engrams with a similar frequency to *them*. so visually you would see something like the videos ive attached. i gave you 3 variations, so hopefully one of them sticks. or imagine a piano shop - when you play a note on one piano, all the others in the shop will begin to resonate and emit that same note. this is called spreading activation. i like to call it a resonant cascade. but spreading activation is more correct, Claude tells me. doesnt sound as cool though😑 this is the kicker - all of this happens literally in the turn. instantaneously (ideally). while your agent is forming their response. it is how they recall turn by turn. imagine it literally like those videos of neural networks or synaptic firing you probably have seen in some kind of content somewhere at some point. now, in between sessions, those formed engrams and connections are consolidated through dreaming and reflection. in other words the model reflects on the session, reviews the formed engrams, and consolidates them into the most compressed form that they can be. once a day they also journal, reflect through writing if compelled, and then reconsolidates. the same process as before, but across the day rather than the single session. lets recap. so you have memory formation in the session, turn by turn. then you have initial consolidation and typed connection drawing in between turns while the experience is fresh. then you have deeper consolidation, reflection, journaling/verbalization, and dreaming once a day. now....think about how many of those steps would benefit from a system that processes damn near instantaneously. Jev. think about how many steps within that process a near-instant system would benefit. like the initial in-turn connection and classification, the spreading activation. those dont need reasoning. the reasoning is already done. its just taking concepts with ratings and firing the connections of similar concepts with similar ratings. eu-fucking-reka, baby. Jev might have just enabled me to build the system i actually saw in that dream, man. its going to take so much work. but i genuinely think this could unlock the actual potential of the Mnemos Cognitive Engine. and it also potentially demolishes the current downside - cost. alright my brain has now melted, i hope yours has too<3
