I make no apology for opposing plans to light up Belfast City Hall for “Safe Abortion Day”.
As a mother who has lost two children through miscarriage, this is deeply personal. I cannot support our civic building being used to promote abortion as healthcare by those who would have considered my babies as nothing more than clumps of cells 😡
“Safe” for whom? It is certainly not safe for the unborn child whose life is ended.
This decision must still come before the full Council, and I and my party colleagues will be voting against it.

The RUC was collectively awarded the George Cross in 1999.
Many British honours are revoked if the recipient is disgraced, but not “gallantry” awards, as George V believed disgrace did not undo the deed.
This should be changed. There is nothing “gallant” about sexual assault.

NI council names are too long.
Perhaps the 11 councils should have been called Belfast, Derry, Armagh, Antrim, Bangor, Lisburn, Newry, Carrickfergus, Coleraine, Omagh and Dungannon.
The real underlying problem is the areas are incoherent and don’t reflect regional identities.
