📕 In 1985,
@Apple started to face some dissatisfaction from their long-time Apple II users, who felt abandoned when the company released the Mac.
The solution?
Ellen Petry, a communications specialist, pitched the idea of 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻(AUGC), which allowed the company to listen directly to customers input.
This lead to a major success for
@Apple
📕 Ever since their launch in 2012,
@duolingo has scaled to offer over 270 courses with just over 300 employees.
For comparison, Rosetta Stone (founded in 1992) offers only 23 languages despite having over 1,300 employees.
What was Duolingo's secret?
They used a combination of 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗱𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 (i.e, the majority of courses are developed by the community, with Duolingo staff providing only the structure and final review.)
And 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀(i.e, using a team of only 3 people to manage over 2,600 monthly events globally, by empowering motivated members to self-organize and lead local gatherings).
