I got quoted in
@DecryptMedia on Trump's two quantum executive orders, alongside Stefan Leichenauer (
@SandboxAQ), Alex Pruden (
@projecteleven), Paul Stimers (U.S. Quantum Industry Coalition), and Christopher Tam (
@en_tropyc -
@BTQ_Tech).
Nothing in them is egregiously wrong, maybe a little redundant. The 2030 and 2031 post-quantum deadlines largely restate what NSM-10 and NIST already put on the table.
For PQC, the order says "migrate," not "here's how to choose." Companies are already asking for guidance, even those not "doing quantum" but hold critical data.
Resource estimates to break encryption dropped 20x twice in the last year. Harvest-now-decrypt-later means anything with a long shelf life is already exposed. You can rotate a password. You cannot rotate your fingerprints.
What I do think should have more discussion and keeping an eye on policy around:
1. The supply chain.
2. The data moat.
And how all this affects startups, investors, and companies who are thinking about how a "made in America" mandate can affect day to day operations and opportunities.
Thanks
@jasonnelson!
