Any other neurodivergent people feel like they underreact to things you’re “supposed” to have a huge emotional reaction to—death, breakups, terrible news—but then completely lose it over things everyone else thinks aren’t a big deal?

The ADHD brain is basically a browser with 97 tabs open and absolutely no intention of letting you close them.
You misclick and suddenly three more tabs open. One is playing music you can’t find. Another is completely unrelated to what you were doing. Every tab makes the whole system slower.
Eventually the browser crashes, and now you need a full restart before you can function again.

Neurotypical people will really say:
“Thank you for joining this mental health session! I’ve randomly paired you with someone. Now tell this complete stranger your deepest fears. Isn’t this exciting?”

Neurodivergent people will cancel plans because they’re too drained to socialize, then stay awake until 2 a.m. because solitude is the first time all day their nervous system finally starts to unclench.

A late autism diagnosis is like finding the instruction manual after years of improvising. Suddenly half of what you thought was your personality turns out to be masking, compensating, rehearsing, and surviving.

Autism is full of contradictions. I can seem emotionally calm while feeling everything intensely. I crave deep connection but struggle to express it. People call me both insightful and naive, independent and overwhelmed. Living in contradictions is almost part of the experience.

Finding out that ADHD can be connected with frequent headaches and migraines is honestly wild.
You can spend years assuming you're simply dehydrated, stressed, tired, or unlucky, while several ADHD-related factors may be contributing at once—sleep being inconsistent, forgetting to eat properly, medication side effects, and everything else that comes with an unpredictable routine.
Sometimes the headache isn't random. It's just another reminder that ADHD affects more than attention.

Neurodivergent people often crave clarity because we grew up navigating invisible rules that everyone else seemed to understand instinctively. Clear expectations feel like safety when ambiguity has always carried consequences.

ADHD is not knowing when to ask for help because feeling overwhelmed has become your baseline. And even when you do want help, explaining what needs to be done feels so mentally exhausting that doing it yourself somehow seems easier.

One reason ADHD is so often dismissed is that people mistake disability-related struggles for character flaws. Disorganization, chronic lateness, communication difficulties, and executive dysfunction are treated as laziness, carelessness, or irresponsibility instead of neurological differences. That misunderstanding has real consequences.

One thing people often misunderstand about ADHD is that some people aren’t using substances to feel “high” they’re trying to quiet a brain that never stops running. The goal is often relief, calm, or a moment of mental stillness, not excitement.

ADHD is buying groceries with a beautifully organized meal plan, cooking exactly one proper meal, and then surviving on crackers and random snacks while the vegetables slowly become a science experiment in the fridge.

Being a man is hilarious because apparently if your girl trips while you're walking together, you're expected to activate superhero mode and catch her before gravity does its thing. Miss the catch and suddenly you've failed the boyfriend Olympics. 😭

One very neurodivergent experience is believing you're simply sharing information that's interesting, helpful, or relevant in a normal conversation only to discover the other person thinks you're talking down to them or acting like they're unintelligent. And somehow, no matter how many times it happens, you still think, "Maybe I got it right this time."

I get asked for my # out in the wild a lot, and I provide it sometimes. But they have to score 100% on a little test, typically involving three questions, in order to have conversation. Another one did not pass the test: ❌
