Netflix confirmed it paid $587m for Ben Affleck’s AI film startup InterPositive. Affleck founded it in 2022 to augment existing filmmaking workflows: ▫️directors can train a small model from their own dailies ▫️improves the post-production editorial process ▫️more quickly mix, color and finish films (use their trained model to change shots, add props, enhance backgrounds or remove visuals while keeping consistency) In a sit down vid with Netflix execs, Affleck mentions “getting more episodes” of your favourite TV shows with his tech. If Affleck hits the full $587m deal (based on milestones), this looks to be Netflix’s largest tech acquisition ever. Whether or not the tech is worth that much, Netflix is getting the Affleck halo of a well-known (but still skeptical) AI practitioner. He has been Hollywood’s go-to takesman (eg. Rogan podcast) on how AI can or can not change Hollywood (he doesn’t think it has creative chops for scriptwriting and thinks unions will protect a lot of acting/writing jobs for foreseeable future). In past 20 years, South Korea has developed "meister" high schools that are similar to German trade schools but specializing in semiconductor manufacturing.  A campus profiled by NYT has 6 mock fabrication facilities for 300 students (who sleep in dormitories). Samsung and SK Hynix hire the top 1/3rd students of these schools. Students learn how to handle wafers, work in cleanroom suits and become experts in semiconductor chemicals and machinery.  South Korea exported $173 billion of semiconductors in 2025 and manufactures 60% of global memory chips. Samsung's union has tied bonuses for assembly-line operators to the chip division's profits, which could hit up to $400,000 per employee...which is why getting into these schools is now as sought after as medical school in a previous generation.

One startup shifted their entire work schedule to 1am to 10am local time. The rationale: 80% of the world’s population is asleep during those hours and they believe ChatGPT and Codex make fewer mistakes in that window of time as all of the compute is under-utilized.
