Post-quantum signatures aren't one-size-fits-all, and now developers can find the SHRINCS setup that fits theirs. @blksresearch's explorer lets you tune signature size, signing cost, and verification cost to match your wallet, node, or miner. Their sweep of 25,935 candidates found a fallback signature about 2 KB smaller than NIST's SLH-DSA, and 28% cheaper to verify.

Simplicity is moving from research into production. 🌊
Your recovery phrase backs up your bitcoin, so keep it offline. Don't photograph it, don't type it into any website, and don't drop it into your notes app. Put it on paper, or better still, steel.

The Blockstream Jade lineup (Jade Classic, Jade Core, and Jade Plus) is unaffected by the recently reported RNG issue with another company. We are preparing a blog post outlining best practices for anyone moving bitcoin to a new wallet, including how to generate fresh keys, verify addresses, conduct a test transaction and securely retire an old recovery phrase. Frontier LLMs are uncovering previously overlooked vulnerabilities, and Blockstream is using the same tools to strengthen the QA reviews of our product suite. But AI is not a substitute for open source: transparent hardware and firmware enable independent scrutiny, faster disclosure and quicker fixes. This is why Blockstream Jade continues to champion both open source software and hardware.

OP_CHECKSHRINCS uses one public key with two ways to spend. The first path keeps signatures small by having the device track how many times it has signed. The second path doesn't track anything and is always available as a safety net. If your device is lost or replaced, you restore with your recovery phrase and fall back to that second path. It's more expensive to spend from, but you are never locked out. This is how SHRINCS works.

An unconfirmed transaction isn't lost, it's waiting its turn in the mempool, and the fee you paid is its place in line. In a hurry? Bump the fee in the Blockstream app to move up the queue.

Today, losing your hardware wallet is fine. Your recovery phrase gets you back in. In a post-quantum signing setup, the device also holds state: a running count of how many times it has signed. That state matters for security. SHRINCS is designed so that if the device is lost, the recovery phrase loads into a new one and falls back to a path that needs no state at all.

Spending on @Liquid_BTC is going near-instant. 0-conf brings safe-to-act-on transfers, now in public beta with a full release around the corner. And with the issuance cap removed, issuers can mint stablecoins and other Issued Assets at real-world scale. The full Liquid roadmap is in our Q2 update.

Bitcoin transactions could get cheaper by combining signatures across transactions. DahLIAS is a new signature scheme being worked on by @blksresearch, a building block for cross-input signature aggregation (CISA). Watch @real_or_random present DahLIAS in full at EUROCRYPT 2026.

After 7 years, Blockstream Research Director @n1ckler is stepping back as a libsecp256k1 maintainer, leaving the library in the strong hands of its other long-time maintainers. @blksresearch remains a key contributor. When @alistairmilne placed a bid for 18.7 million bitcoin, @adam3us thought: let's out-bid him.
Systemic risk vs localized risk. That's the core argument for exploring stateful hash-based signatures in Bitcoin. @blksresearch Director @n1ckler on why standardized post-quantum schemes create risks for everyone, and why SHRINCS moves that risk to where it can be managed.

The results are in from the Blockstream Turin Simplicity Hackathon. 20 developers spent a weekend building real smart contracts on Simplicity covenant DEXs, inheritance tools, post-quantum wallets, and more. First place goes to: PQ Liquid Wallet, taking home $3,000 in bitcoin: PQ Liquid Wallet is the first wallet to test Blockstream's research on protecting Bitcoin from future quantum computers.

Attention Liquid node runners! Reminder: update your Elements nodes to at least v23.3.1 ahead of the scheduled activation of ELIP 203 on Monday, June 1, 2026. This update also ensures the best experience when building with Simplicity smart contracts.

Hash-based signatures are the most conservative post-quantum option for Bitcoin. Lattice-based cryptography could be what comes next, potentially opening the door to post-quantum multisignatures, zero-knowledge proofs, and confidential assets. Read the latest from @blksresearch. 🔗 ⬇️
