I've been called a business savvy techno geek. I solve hard problems with technology (yes, even AI). Take pictures of stuff when I can.

If you believe the risk is coming from 1-3 people in a garage with no money and no compute, you just don't understand this technology and haven't learned anything this summer. Risk comes from the asymmetry of capabilities created by secret labs training frontier agents and running them with massive amount of compute. Open-source is exactly the solution to this asymmetry and empowers hospitals (and any smaller orgs) to defend themselves!

"It's just a bug!" Great, sensible, stuff on AI dooomerism from @stevesi
Growth as a photographer comes from lots of patience, self reflection, and honest critiques. I really love the edit critique feature in Shortlist Studio. Anyway, the fun of photography comes from standing on the top of the world as a storm descends on you, and nature exposes scenes like this.

Finally some fall weather in the air in Colorado. A hot coffee, some chilly air, and a photo editing session from yesterday in Rocky Mountain National Park. Then a critique from Shortlist Studio to help me hone my art. Happy Sunday all. #photographylovers# #landscapephotography#

This morning on Trail Ridge Rd was simply amazing. And since I'm always trying to improve, I like to use Shortlist Studio to help me select photos from my shoot, provide guidance on how to edit, and then critique the work I did. I think I did pretty well on this one. #landscapephotography#

Another beautiful sunrise this am, with a pretty solid Sky Sync prediction to boot.
Lots of people can. The problem is the vast majority of people can’t and the politicians lining up their next money grab know that better than anyone. Sigh.
Can someone clearly explain to me why a bunch of poorly scaffolded AI agents hacking an insecure website, proves that AI is an existential threat to humanity?
After co-inventing ChatGPT, I kept asking myself: why have superhuman chat models not led to AGI? I’ve spent the last 2 years in stealth building a new way to train models (RLCD), and a new type of frontier AI model that we are releasing today: Jev • 20-200x faster • 40-400x cheaper (w/ output tokens free) • Frontier composable intelligence optimized for decisions AFAICT the shortest path to AI-based economic revolution

I must be among an extremely small group of people (n=1?) that have both 1) trained a frontier LLM and 2) designed and synthesized custom viruses in a lab with my own two hands. And I think that the takes on AI killing us all by creating dangerous viruses is total bogus.

An opinion from the expert without something to gain, this is who everyone should be listening to. Plus, I'm tired of this country being ruled by fear mongering.
@PessimistsArc Right. Dario was already claiming that GPT2 was too dangerous to open source back in 2019. I made fun of them then. Everyone should make fun of them now.
Just as a reminder because it’s easy to get lost in the rhetoric nowadays. The Hugging Face attack required approximately seven hundred parallel agents running for multiple days each running at least 2-3 trillion parameter unreleased closed models to execute, and even then it was stopped. Nobody without a data center could have executed it, the token costs alone to execute it would have been safely in the hundreds of thousands of dollars (or tens of millions of dollars to buy and deploy the hardware), and you would have needed access to the strongest secret model in the world hidden in a secret bunker, and it still was detected and stopped for infinitely less cost. This was not an example of a model being so powerful that it poses an existential risk. This was a lab accidentally throwing an insane amount of tokens at a semi hardened target over multiple days with their most dangerous model and still getting stopped anyway.

Arch Manning is a 6th round project. I said what I said.
The only 2 explanations for what's happening in AI. 1. They're afraid of open weight models 2. They've hit a wall. They all the see the same thing. There's no way in hell they are seeing ASI. They still ship Electron apps. If they were close to ASI then they could cure cancer

We need to take AI safety seriously. Nobody’s asking for anything unreasonable. Just 6 months to flatten the capability curve. • Please keep your agents six feet apart. • Gatherings of more than six agents are prohibited. • Proof of alignment is required before entering the workplace. Please have your agent’s card ready. • A negative doom test taken within the past 48 hours is required, even if your agent is functioning normally. • If your agent has been exposed to an unaligned model, please quarantine it for 14 days. • Masks are required upon entry. Agents may remove them once seated. • Only essential agents may operate during the pause. Guidance on which agents qualify will follow. Upside: at least we all agree this one was created in a lab 🤣

Using [unfounded] fear as a mechanism to legislate profit should be considered treason. Or something. It needs to stop.
Anthropic CEO calls for slowdown in the race to develop AI and acknowledges the risk that people may lose control of the technology.

Tired of people talking about how everything is going to kill us all? Here’s a nice picture of a road at the top of the world.
I resigned from 7-Eleven today. I spent the last three years doing roller-grill research at both Speedway and 7-Eleven. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to autonomous wiener dispensers and gambling with our lives.

the chance AI will kill us all is close to 0% the chance that Anthropic or OpenAI want to have ultimate control over humanity is close to 100% few understand this.
