For the past few years I’ve been using this hashtag on my posts… it’s much more than just a random hashtag, it is a mindset, an approach to flourishing in the southern tip of Africa. An ode to - moenie worry nie, ons sal ‘ok’ wees, vasbyt - môre is nog ‘n dag! With so many friends that have moved to the rest of the world, and all really doing well, we sometimes forget that it is still an immense privilege to still be here, and flourishing! Great weather, beautiful people, lots of challenges (but that keeps us sharp)! Braaivleis, potholes, vriende, taxis, Seattle cappuccinos, loadshitting, family, Jacob-Julius-Steentjie-Cyril en al hul maatjies… At most we each get 70, 80 and maybe 90 years, you have one innings - there is no other place that I would rather be! Time is said to be the greatest commodity - but unlike other “commodities”, it cannot be stored, accumulated or used for another day. This makes it incredibly precious and the way we therefore spend it, requires deep thought and consideration. I have given away far too much of my time over the years, without applying the necessary quality filters to assessing shared values, cultural alignment, reciprocity (not only commercial, but is it worth my time emotionally) and what could I or should I rather be doing with this very precious and limited resource? So my promise to myself, 8 weeks away from my 58th birthday, is to only spend time with those whom I know, like and trust (my same filters in hiring people). Time is energy. We want to charge our batteries through our engagements. To not only deplete them. That in itself is a solid filter #InvestTimeWisely# 🙏
