What’s kinda weird to me is that people are missing how bad the…parenting?…is here? I think you can actually survive and even thrive in a not-so-great school as a sort-of gentrifier (heck, even we considered it, given that we have a neighborhood school), but you have to be *on the ball,* demanding answers, following up on progress, chasing down administrators, keeping track of your kid compared to basic standards…you have to be a pain in their neck! And not just for your kids. Once you force accountability, you should (theoretically) get the domino effect of improving the school, as parents realize they can follow the same pattern and get better results. But you can’t just dump your kid in an objectively bad school and then never follow up until, like, 8th grade!
