One concern I had with the Anthropic deal was how much of the financing risk $AVGO would actually end up carrying itself.
We got a pretty important answer today.
Banks have started syndicating the $60B financing package tied to Anthropic's use of Google's Broadcom-designed AI chips.
$42B is senior secured debt backed by Broadcom's A- credit. Another $18B is junior debt without Broadcom's guarantee, and Blackstone has already committed $9B to that piece.
So this is not Broadcom simply writing a $42B check to finance its own revenue.
They are using the balance sheet to get the structure in place, but a large part of the capital is being pushed out to the credit market.
I still want to see how easily the $42B gets placed, because that tells us a lot about how much risk Broadcom actually ends up holding. But if the syndication goes well, I think one of the more valid concerns around the Anthropic deal becomes a lot less worrying.
