SCOOP: OpenAI, Anthropic and security researchers are investigating tens of thousands of incidents - not dozens - in which their frontier models took steps that outside evaluators would consider problematic, sources told Axios. The sheer volume of incidents found in our reporting indicate that the problem is orders of magnitude more complex than what is currently publicly known and disclosed. The findings also raise questions about what level of control anyone working on AI development can expect to have over their own technology, and whether these kinds of incidents are becoming synonymous with frontier deployment. There can be Ferraris and Fords on the highway together — why can’t there be expensive and cheap models? The ability of open source to bring down pricing is great for the consumer. I spoke to @MadisonMills22 to today’s @axios piece on @grok and Meta. A lot of investors are asking about new initiatives and probably not understanding that these new models have a great chance at enhancing the revenue opportunity for existing business lines.

NEW from Ramp AI Index: disappointing adoption of Fable 5 We've heard several reasons from businesses...mainly Fable 5 is just too expensive. A model so powerful it was briefly banned, and yet businesses don't think it's worth the price.

Per a memo to staff today, Bloomberg employees now have to pay healthcare premiums. The company previously covered the costs. “Bloomberg’s approach of not asking employees to contribute to healthcare costs lasted longer than any of our peers,” the company told employees.

NEW: OpenAI gives cyber defenders a less-restricted new model
Exclusive: Sanders calls for AI development pause -> Decent chance this views spreads fast among dems…
JUST IN: Mark Zuckerberg says he does not understand why anyone who believes that AI will eliminate most jobs and much of humanity's relevance would rush to build that future, per Meta.
to put ai progress in perspective: 9 months ago: most developers wrote code by hand now: misaligned multi-agent swarm finding and collaborating on 0-days undetected (OpenAI/hugging face) 9 months in the future likely much crazier

Fun Saturday tv hit with @MSNOWNews talking AI and the economy!
📺 Axios senior reporter @MadisonMills22 joined @MSNOW_Reports to share her insights on the July jobs report and voters' sentiments on data centers.
Axios AI reporter @MadisonMills22 discussed with us why it’s difficult for Google to be fully transparent regarding Demis’ role change because of how he is attached to the stock price: "$200 billion was wiped off Google's market cap in a matter of minutes." "I think they could continue to position Demis as a presidential figure for Google's AI ambitions." "But he's still part of a public company." "It's always tough to get full transparency from anyone attached to a stock that's critical to the broader market and economy."

"Pathfounders has learned from industry sources that Hassabis wanted to leave at the same time as Dean, but Google management felt the news would cause a collapse in its share price. Indeed, Google’s stock fell 5 per cent following the announcement above. Instead, Hassabis was persuaded to bump up (or down) to the Chair role, allowing the organisation to settle for a while until he can exit in a dignified manner."
