How did Japan go from the 1980s to this? To being at the frontier of all technologies to now having to beg American AI providers for more advanced models to protect all their 1990s era outdated websites, how the mighty fall, vassalage is a sad condition.

Oh look at that, a Chinese Open Source model is basically at parity with American frontier labs models merely a month after it was said this was supposed to be impossible now, something something no moat, something something the current absurd AI Capex is justified somehow, something something we need some regulatory layer to protect American enterprises.

It’s strange isn’t it, You used to find the climate doomers so annoying, You wanted them to go away. They were so arrogant and just over the top, But now, I miss them, I think many of you now miss them as well, Because they are so much less annoying than the AI doom sex cult crowd. Kind of how like George W Bush looks almost like a classic great American president compared to Donald Trump. These are the times we live in.

One of the best things about living in Modern Urban Asia is that Christmas season basically starts in Early October. All the malls already have the huge Christmas trees up. Mariah Carey is blasting off all the H&Ms, so it reminds you to start amping the ads up for Christmas. We should all be grateful for the incredible generosity of American women.

"Legal action" lmao. There isn't really much Singapore can do here, it can't militarily force Indonesia, Indonesia will laugh at any legal actions it brings to the world stage, and if it tried a financial move it would just hurt its own reputation as a massive wealth laundering + tax evasion hub, Indonesia would even welcome that to be honest as it could then attract back hundreds of billions in wealth. Singaporeans can oftentimes be delusional about their power and wealth, so they're seeing the real limits of it here.

Oh look, AI won’t kill us after all, The latest doom scenario failed to once again end the world. This time extremely quickly it seems. Anyway moving onto the next….
interpretability might be the most important scientific problem in the world right now, as I don't think we can solve alignment if we don't know what we're building. I think I have good news about it. I co-authored early work in mechanistic interpretability at OpenAI and came away pessimistic, because neural networks appeared to fold into arbitrary tangled knots. years later, I started openai's first large-scale automated interpretability project, finding about 2% of neurons legible with the primitive tools we had with modern agentic tools and a much closer look, the picture looks totally different. the vast majority in models up to trillions of parameters are legible, and their circuits beautiful. many famous examples of tangled neurons turned out to be misunderstood. The roadblocks I expected mostly aren't there. I now think ambitious interpretability will be solved by the time we need it most, and possibly quite soon, as automated scientists keep improving. it may be a bitter lesson for interpretability: the simple thing, at absurd scale, works

The sentences no one wants to read in 2036 are the following two lines, "Artificial intelligence has become one of the most extraordinary inventions in human history." "My daily life really isn't that different from ten years ago." This is why I suspect this is what will happen.

Indonesia is having its worst year since 1997, general malaise after malaise, and on top of that the world's worst stock market this year, everything is in the red. Also a lot of indications that Indonesian oligarchs have been doing their best to shuffle more wealth towards Singapore this year after Prabowo threatened them this year to contribute more towards the national budget. At the executive level, constant changes to the finance ministry haven't really helped, the Indonesian presidency seems to be floundering in the dark. I'm not surprised, I said that the best thing Indonesia could do for itself was just to grant Joko Widodo autocrat for life status.

A technology can be incredibly transformative while the financing around it initially has some business flaws, as I've been saying for months on here, where there is smoke, there is fire, We may very well have an AI infrastructure financing crisis just as the technology keeps developing regardless. I suspect its these dynamics that were really behind the "pause for the good of the world" bullshit we saw the past few weeks. The current set up is fiscally unsustainable.

For the average normie, this is increasingly what AI is becoming associated with, Their groceries and basic livelihood under attack and being messed with for profits and capex that they are disconnected from. The backlash that is building towards the AI industry is going to be the stuff of legend. France is actually a fascinating arena where we can perhaps examine its early electoral impact, as I imagine by April/Mat 2027 the frontier’s impact will be even more visible and it may feature as a major election issue by the time second round voting comes. It will foreshadow the incredible debates we will see in America by 2028. The Trump administration by neglecting to actually create a rules based regime and regulatory order around it is likely conceding the eventual architecture to the Democrats. The backlash will be massive I expect.

BREAKING: 🇫🇷 A major cyberattack has hit supermarket refrigeration systems across France, reportedly causing fresh and frozen food to spoil after hackers remotely manipulated temperature controls. According to BFMTV, the attack began overnight from Sunday into Monday, targeting older versions of refrigeration-control software supplied by Danish company Danfoss. The attackers allegedly exploited the systems’ defrosting function, forcing refrigeration equipment to heat continuously instead of keeping products cold. Temperatures were reportedly set as high as 50°C, destroying entire stocks of food within hours. Several major supermarket chains have been affected, including Intermarché, Super U and Metro stores and independent businesses, including butcher shops also have been impacted. Around 150 Intermarché stores are reportedly affected, according to industry sources cited by BFMTV. The full number of affected locations remains unclear. The financial damage is already significant. In Haguenau, Alsace, an Intermarché store reportedly lost its entire frozen-food stock, worth approximately €50,000. A nearby Super U allegedly had to discard both fresh and frozen products, with losses estimated at €220,000. An store in the same town was also affected, although its losses had not yet been calculated. The combined losses reported at the Intermarché and Super U stores in Haguenau alone amount to around €270,000. Nationwide damage could reach several million euros. Intermarché reportedly confirmed the incident in an internal communication, warning that several stores had suffered losses of frozen products. Coopérative U also acknowledged the attack and established crisis teams to assist affected stores and coordinate with refrigeration specialists. Technical investigations are ongoing, and the full extent of the damage has yet to be established. Authorities and companies are still working to determine the full circumstances of the attack. The identity of the perpetrators has not been confirmed.
