I need to see ideological consistency before I can fully support someone. I feel bad for Sonam Wangchuk, but I also have my doubts. What exactly is his ideological position? Until a few years ago, he appeared comfortable with the right wing government. He never spoke out against communalism, democratic backsliding, or the use of police force against dissenters. If someone truly follows Gandhian principles, such silence is difficult to reconcile. Imagine Gandhi being alive today. Do you think he would have cherry-picked issues? In fact, Wangchuk had publicly praised the government in the past. That said, I supported him when he was detained recently. He was branded a Chinese agent and an anti-national on the basis of a few doctored videos and other misinformation. He did not deserve that treatment. I still feel for him because, regardless of where his politics ultimately lie, everyone deserves the right to protest peacefully. I also want to believe he was genuinely trying to seek justice for the NEET scam victims. But I find it difficult to place complete trust in people who have been ideologically inconsistent, remained silent on the BJP government’s anti-minority policies and authoritarian tendencies for years, and only later became critics. I will support Wangchuk whenever he stands for the right cause, but I will continue to view him with a healthy degree of skepticism. @Wangchuk66
