I remember when before I left for Germany I watched a lot of content foreigners (esp. Americans) who live here. Boy do those people speak definitively on things that exist on a spectrum (a.k.a lying) ๐ญ. This is one of them
yes. they do just suffer. one time when we first moved to Germany my husband got a migraine at work and asked a coworker if they had an ibuprofen, which is a very common thing to do in the US if you need a painkiller. he might as well have asked them for heroin. she was appalled. she said โif you feel sick you should go home, lay down, and drink some teaโ. he said โbut i donโt want to do that. i am working on something.โ โwe have sick leave, unlike in America.โ โyeah thatโs great but i donโt want to go home and sit on the couch with a headache!! i want to not have a headache!!โ he left work, got ibuprofen from the pharmacy, and went back to finish the day with no headache. itโs just a total culture clash. we fundamentally cannot understand each other here.
