back in the day you had to go thru stack overflow hazing to become an engineer...now that this is no longer the case, we need to find new ways to humble our youth

just read Derek Parfit's paper on personal identity. TLDR "human identity is less stable than we imagine + memory is partly reconstructed each time we revisit it" -

openai made their own chips but not their own internal messaging app, they use slack
even though building a slack clone would basically be free for them?
so actually software engineers are safe because there's harder problems than building software and no one wants to maintain it?

Meta will be paying Slack easily ~$20M/year for a chat product
Ask yourself: if they could build something with 2 devs + AI why not do it? They’d save SO MUCH.
