The regime is taking a wrecking ball to science. It’s fueling a brain drain of scientists that, if not reversed, will do severe, long-term harm to our country. We must reverse course quickly. My bill to allow people to sue federal agents for violating their constitutional rights — just like people can already sue local police — received its final approval from the Senate and is on its way to the Governor!
The No Kings Act (SB 747) ends the era of impunity, and it’s the strongest of any state. When any public official — ICE agent or otherwise — violates your rights, you should be able to sue them. Current law makes it all but impossible to sue federal agents when they, for example, murder people or illegally grab people and throw them in gulags.
Time to put a stop to it and hold agents accountable when they engage in outrageous behavior.

We must pass the @Connect_BayArea regional transit funding measure to stabilize BART, Muni, Caltrain, and AC Transit and ensure a bright transit future for San Francisco and the Bay Area. We worked for three years to pass the law authorizing this regional ballot measure. Let’s get it done.

My bill to allow homeowners to replace their windows with energy-efficient windows without city/HOA micro-management just received its final sign-off from the Senate and is headed to the Governor.
People should be able to lower their energy bills by weatherizing their windows without cities or HOAs banning it or forcing them to pay dramatically more for bespoke replica windows.
SB 908 will help.

BIG WIN FOR LOWER ENERGY BILLS AND CLEAN ENERGY: My legislation to allow people to use plug-in solar (aka balcony solar) just received final Senate sign-off and is on its way to the Governor!
Plug-in solar allows renters (who usually don’t benefit from rooftop solar) and homeowners (who may not be able to afford rooftop solar up-front costs) to plug in a low cost solar panel and quickly lower their electric bills.
SB 868 is a big win for affordability. Thank you colleagues!

I’ve known @Scott_Wiener since our early days in local government. He’s been a national leader on housing construction, transit, and expanding the rights of LGBTQ+ people.

We rallied with Senator @AlexPadilla4CA against Prop 39, a “voter id” ballot measure that’ll make it harder for people to vote (which is the point) and force people who vote by mail to include the last 4 digits of their social security or driver’s license number on the outside of the envelope.
