New ship attack in SoH: According to Ambrey Intelligence, a Panama-flagged tanker "reported being impacted by an unidentified projectile while in inbound transit through the Strait of Hormuz."  The tanker broadcast "a mayday over VHF Channel 16 and stated that it was disabled as a result of the impact," Ambrey added.  We @WashInstitute have been tracking all the ship attacks during the Iran war on the map below which tracks maritime attacks in the MENA region since 2017. 🇮🇷 Some details from Iran's @MehrnewsCom earlier today on the Iran-Oman Hormuz framework that will be put to Arab Gulf ministers Monday: 🔺Based on intensive technical and diplomatic talks between Iran and Oman, which ultimately resulted in a final agreement in early September, the understanding between Tehran and Muscat is set to be announced soon in the presence of the foreign ministers of the Gulf countries in the region, including Iraq. 🔺This understanding is only between Iran and Oman. Other countries will attend the meeting only to be informed of the details of the route and traffic arrangements, so that their lack of opposition is implicitly made clear to the international community. 🔺 An agreement has been reached between Iran and Oman about the details and specifications of the new routes entering and exiting the strait. According to this understanding, the route entering the Persian Gulf is completely within Iranian territorial waters, while part of the route exiting the Persian Gulf is also within Iranian territorial waters. 🔺Traffic on this route will be managed/ overseen by Iran. After its implementation, the southern route, which the US insisted on opening and was the main cause of the new tension, will be closed. 🔺The key point is that this understanding **does not in any way trigger the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. 🔺️Iran has announced 7 conditions to the American side through intermediaries to open the Strait, and until these 7 conditions are implemented, the Strait of Hormuz will be closed. 🔺️Therefore, the understanding between Iran and Oman does not mean the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, but it means that if the strait is to be opened, it will be opened based on this understanding, which is considered a major step towards exercising Iranian sovereignty over it. The opening of the Strait depends entirely on the behavior of the US side in implementing Iran's conditions.
