Guangzhou deepens New Zealand air link as China Southern expands flights China Southern Airlines will expand flights from Guangzhou to Auckland, New Zealand's largest urban centre and key commercial gateway, and Christchurch, the largest city on the South Island and an important entry point for southern New Zealand. During the peak season, the two routes will offer a combined maximum of 28 return flights a week. The airline will resume its seasonal Guangzhou-Christchurch service on October 26, with daily flights. From December 2, the frequency will rise to 10 flights a week with the addition of 3 weekly services under flight numbers CZ8373/8374. All Christchurch flights will be operated by Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Meanwhile, China Southern will also expand its Guangzhou-Auckland route from 14 to 18 weekly flights for the peak travel period from December 2, 2026 to February 12, 2027. The 4 additional weekly flights, operated as CZ693/694, will complement the airline's existing twice-daily CZ305/306 and CZ335/336 services, with all flights using Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Together, the expanded Auckland schedule and increased Christchurch operations will give Guangzhou 28 weekly return flights to New Zealand during the busiest travel season. This marks the highest level of air connectivity ever offered between the Chinese hub and New Zealand.
