The Open Compute Project Foundation thrives because of the volunteers who generously share their knowledge, leadership, and commitment to advancing open infrastructure innovation throughout the global technology community. Their time and expertise are essential to driving OCP’s mission forward. Today, we are proud to recognize one of these outstanding contributors. Raj Kapoor - AMD What is your role in the OCP Community? Raj is a key volunteer leader within the OCP Open Platform Firmware Project and serves as Project Lead. He has been a strong advocate for open firmware development and has helped drive meaningful contributions and engagement from across the ecosystem, including leadership and participation from AMD. How long have you been involved with OCP? Raj began engaging with industry partners on open firmware initiatives around 2019 and became actively involved with OCP shortly thereafter through the OCP OSF project (Open System Firmware), now Open Platform Firmware (OPF) Project. Over the years, Raj has had the privilege of helping lead several key community initiatives, including openSFI (Open Silicon Firmware Interface) and UPCI (Unified Platform Configuration Interface). These efforts brought together silicon providers, system manufacturers, firmware vendors and hyperscalers to address some of the industry’s most pressing challenges around cost, TTM (time to market), scalability, interoperability, and long-sustainability of platform firmware and silicon enablement. Why do you volunteer your time to OCP? Raj believes open collaboration accelerates innovation. Through OCP, he helps create an environment where companies can work together on common challenges and build solutions that benefit the broader industry. What impact has OCP had on you professionally? OCP has provided Raj the opportunity to collaborate with technology leaders across the ecosystem, helping align firmware and platform initiatives while contributing to industry-wide standards and best practices. What are you most excited about right now? Raj is particularly excited about the increasing importance of open, secure, and scalable platform firmware as AI, cloud, and next-generation infrastructure continue to evolve. Something people may not know about you? Raj is widely respected for his ability to bring together diverse technical stakeholders and build consensus around complex engineering challenges. Volunteer Leadership Quote: “Open collaboration creates stronger technologies and a stronger industry.”

Today’s AI takeoff stands on decades of open research and open infrastructure. The Transformer. Backpropagation. ImageNet. PyTorch. TensorFlow. JAX. CUDA. Linux. Books, the open Internet, and millions of open-source codebases on GitHub that became training data. Without all these, today’s AI labs and companies simply would not exist.

Mystery Over @openstandard: Korean Giants Express Bewilderment After Inclusion in Stablecoin Alliance While the newly unveiled global stablecoin alliance "Open Standard" has generated massive buzz by announcing its upcoming dollar-pegged stablecoin, $OUSD, mystery shrouds its member list as several major South Korean conglomerates deny active participation. Despite Open Standard claiming backing from 140+ global giants alongside top Korean firms like @Samsung, Dunamu (operator of @Official_Upbit), and Shinhan Financial Group, multiple local entities have clarified they never had formal discussions or commitments, expressing bewilderment over their surprise inclusion. OUSD aims to challenge the dominant @tether and @circle duopoly through an open infrastructure model that distributes reserve yield back to its network partners, but growing skepticism over its actual corporate partnerships could overshadow its ambitious launch.

Nvidia makes the chips. @nvidia owns the software stack. Now it reportedly wants @huggingface too. A $12.9B bid for the front door to open-source AI. Maybe the models stay open. But if compute, tooling, and distribution all answer to one company, the ecosystem isn't. The future of AI needs open infrastructure. Not vertical integration dressed up as one.
