Vegas Loop isn’t just tunnels! In Vegas, besides 14 tunnels, TBC has built 14 stations (28 by end of year), 12 emergency egresses, 6 cross-passages, and 9 "knockout shafts". See below for the construction of a cross-passage connecting "Tunnel-1" and "Tunnel-2" (beneath Paradise Road) to provide access and egress; construction time is ~10 days. Steps: 1. If necessary, treat the ground (typically with grout) between the two tunnels such that it is stable during excavation. 2. Brace the Tunnel-1 wall with a steel frame and open up the concrete Tunnel-1 wall within said frame. 3. Excavate the dirt between the tunnels, installing steel ribs and wood lagging to maintain a safe roof until Tunnel-2 is exposed. This is a slow process of 10 feet per day. 4. Install waterproofing and rebar, the latter which anchors into both Tunnels 1 and 2 (see pic) 5. Install solid steel liner plate (see pic) 6. Pour high-strength concrete around the liner plate, reinforced with the rebar from Step 4 7. Open up Tunnel-2, finalizing the connection Finally, the cross-passage is built out with a walking surface, ventilation, fire suppression valves, fire-rated doors, safety equipment/sensors, lighting, and cameras.

These 2 holes in the ground at Westgate are about to become the fastest way to get to the airport. Once they open, you skip Paradise Road traffic, taxi driver bullshit, and waiting outside in the rideshare line in 115°F heat. Westgate says the trip will take about 3 minutes.

TBC would be excited and honored to build this massive infrastructure project. Because Loop/Hyperloop is express (i.e. no intermediate stops), one could travel from an Austin parking lot to a favorite San Antonio restaurant in ~30 min. As long as they both have Loop stations!

Boring Company is working on a simple, precursor Hyperloop tunnel between Austin and San Antonio (>200 mph). Due to traffic congestion, that journey can currently take up to 2.5 hours. @BoringCompany can reduce that to a consistent <30 mins.

Drone footage of Prufrock-MB1 and Prufrock-MB2 tunneling simultaneously in Nashville. The 10,000+ psi limestone is transported from each boring machine via a continuous conveyor belt, completing its journey to the rock pit via the 2 vertically stacked side belts seen below.

Thank you to @ClarkCountyNV for approving an additional 19 Vegas Loop stations - Vegas Loop is now entitled for 123 stations! Because Loop is point-to-point with no intermediate stops, in the limit, one could have a Loop station in every driveway!

The Scissor Test. Within the first few weeks of me joining TBC, Steve gave me the direction that he wanted to be able to walk around a Prufrock with a pair of scissors, be able to cut any wire, and the machine should still be able to mine. Obviously this was a hypothetical exercise, but the goal was real. What followed was a deep system-wide failure mode effects analysis and a complete redesign of the machine’s electrical system to be able to pass the scissor test. There are still a few single points of failure where the complexity or cost tradeoff doesn’t make sense to design out, but for the most part Prufrock now passes the scissor test. Being robust to a single failure is obviously important, but equally as important is observability of those failures. Without observability, a failure can lay latent in the system without anyone noticing for years and then when the backup fails the system will still go down. For this reason we make sure to instrument each redundant connection so when any failure happens we instantly know, get a notification, and can schedule a repair for the next maintenance day - all while Prufrock keeps mining. That’s what lets these machines keep mining continuously with zero people in the tunnel. We’re hiring electrical engineers. Come help us keep pushing this further.
