Standing in front of the Burj Khalifa again. Goosebumps. Around three years ago I was here talking to a crypto bro based in the UAE. He told me most of his friends use @TrustWallet. I said that was impossible. It lacked this feature, that chain, that polish. He just smiled and said, “That’s what I see people using.” Coming back to the same place, I can only laugh at my own naivety. Trust Wallet is more performant now. The UX is better. We support more chains and features than ever. But that’s not why people stay. They stay because they trust. They trust the brand. They trust self-custody. They trust that the team will do right by them. Features can be copied. Performance can be improved. Trust takes years to build. We’re nine years in. Still early. Still entrusted by millions. What we carry forward isn’t just a product. It’s the trust of the people who chose us. It’s always Day 1. Thank you for your trust.

most exchanges ask you to trust them. @binance just publishes the numbers. back in 2022, proof of reserves (the famous P.O.R) launches. here is some data picked for every year: nov 2022: 475,000 bitcoin:native sept 2023: 588,000 bitcoin:native dec 2024: 580,111 bitcoin:native dec 2025: 617,620 bitcoin:native july 2026, latest snapshot: 640,000 bitcoin:native i’ll let you figure out for yourselves what you're seeing. published monthly, publicly, verifiable, for over four years straight. it comes from millions of users choosing, every month, to keep their bitcoin there. four years of receipt, year after year.

another angle of numbers for the first week of August: @BNBCHAIN did $11.28b in dex volume over the last 7 days. more than any other chain, up 21% week over week. Solana did $10.41b. Ethereum $5.77b. Tron $196m. now look at the liquidity sitting behind those numbers. BNB Chain, Tron and Solana all hold around $4.9b in defi tvl. Ethereum holds $41.03b. BNB Chain recycles (2.31x its entire tvl every week. Solana 2.17x. Ethereum 0.14x. Tron 0.04x. three chains, same liquidity base, swap volumes 57x apart from top to bottom. Tron is more a stablecoin rail, not a swap venue, so its number reads low by design. fair to notice it. the ranking everyone watches is tvl. the one that shows what a chain actually does is velocity. 🥇: 🔶👷🏽‍♂️

It is statistically safer to store coins on exchanges than to self custody. 👇 A few thoughts: Assuming the data is correct, my impression is Willy has always been a strong supporter for self custody. Hack data is easier to collect on the CEX side, usually major news. It is harder on the self-custody side, where hacks, lost coins, etc are often not reported. On the exchange side, some deceased exchanges drag down the data. Binance (and a few other exchanges) have always covered users for any CEX side hacks. Not saying one is better than another. Different approaches have different risk profiles (and product offerings), and may be better suited for different people. A balanced approach is probably best.

Banks could go ... well ... bankrupt. That's where the term comes from. I still prefer crypto.
Crypto exchanges bankrupt Mt Gox, Quadriga, Voyager, Celsius, BlockFi, FTX.. DeFi solutions gone LUNA/UST.. Cold wallets hacked Coldcard.. There is NO safe solution You ALWAYS carry high risk to lose funds The only real mitigation is a return that justifies the risk taken

Wrote this article in 2020 (updated in 2025). Talks about different way you could back up your seed phrase. A bit long, but worth the time to read.

Securing the backup seed phrase is hard. Can't have someone else read it and say, "oh, that's a nice seed phrase". Can't have it destroyed by fire, flood, etc. Can't have a hacker gain access to it. And most importantly, can't lose it yourself.

With all the talk on hard wallet saftey, I'll share my own experience My hardware wallet didn't get hacked. It just stopped working. Nearly cost me everything in it. I had BTC in an old Trezor, multi-sig setup. Ran a firmware update. Afterward I couldn't sign transactions anymore. The only thing that saved me was having the seed written down somewhere else. Ledger has a different failure mode. The screens on old Nanos fade over time. No readable screen means you can't enter your PIN and no access to the device. Neither of these is a hack. The hardware just stops cooperating. That's the part you don't plan for. So know that you could also be at risk of losing your Bitcoin and crypto if you have it stored in old models of Trezor or Ledger wallets. Make sure to keep your devices updated and double check that you have the seedphrase backed somewhere. I recommend multi-sig also for security.

The thing is, with self custody, devs patching the bug won't fix previously generated wallets. And devs have no way to reach users on air-gapped devices. Your wallet stays open to hackers until you act. I'm a believer in self custody, but it puts the burden on you.

This is sad! You may or may not know, @TrustWallet faced this exact same bug years ago, a pseudo-random number generator, ie, not truly random, $12m in losses. They covered every user. Software will always have bugs. What matters is who’s behind it.

$1.6 million dollars in Bitcoin was drained from my account on July 29th in the Cold Card wallet hack. My Bitcoin was in cold storage. My keys were on a ColdCard device kept in a safety deposit box that had never been connected to the internet. This part's nerdy, but here's what happened: Hackers discovered a vulnerability in the part of the hardware wallet code used to create seed phrases. This allowed them to use AI to brute force guessing seed phrases. I was at our cottage and heard about the hack today. "No way this affects me." I thought. I logged into Wasabi––software that lets me view my bitcoin wallets online. Right away I saw lines of red transaction–withdrawals–and I knew. From 9:36pm - 9:43pm on July 29th, every wallet I had had been emptied. 18.25245043 btc gone. That's just over $1.6 million dollars CAD. Perhaps the hardest part about this is that I did everything right. I never shared my seed phrase with anybody. My devices never touched the internet. Everything was kept in multiple safes and safety deposit boxes. None of it mattered. All because the hardware that created the seed phrase originally had one line in their code from 2021 that had a vulnerability. I'm filing a police report and a report with the Ontario Securities Commission. But I don't expect to recoup anything. A part of me is trying to make sense of what just happened. Or try to figure out a lesson in it. I'm struggling. $1.6 million is a staggering amount of money to have stolen. I guess all that I can think about right now is that I'm so damn happy that I'm an entrepreneur and that my earning potential is under my control. Mark my damn words. I'll recover.

Even hardware wallets can have bugs. Even old wallets (with long history) can have bugs. How to mitigate? Split your funds in a few wallets maybe? This has a different set of risks. Nothing is 100%. Stay informed. Stay SAFU!

This is why I recommend #Binance# for beginners and experienced users → Passkeys → 2FA → Withdrawal whitelist → Anti phishing code → Login confirmations → Risk detection For self custody I recommend @TrustWallet Wallet Security is all about layers not just one device

I agree with Spigg here. A few more points: 1. @GiggleAcademy is not a crypto team. They make a free education app. It is not (and will not be) their expertise to manage crypto (or your supply). 2. Giggle cannot determine: how much (what % or what $ amount) will impact price? how much to sell/keep each month? etc. To keep it simple, it will sell most tokens (of value) each month. 3. Crypto projects should not donate a "price-impacting-amount" to charity, or anyone else. And expect that person to manage it "properly" somehow. You should manage your own tokenomics/supply. I have given BNB to Giggle repeatedly, and they have sold/converted to fiat to pay for expenses. BNB devs/holders have no issues with that. In fact, we are proud for it to happen. 4. A monthly (or repeated) donations would be very much appreciated. But no promises of any actions in return, including a "thank you" note from Giggle or me. If you expect that, don't donate. You are just farming for interactions for your coin. A donation should be you supporting the mission of @GiggleAcademy, which is to provide more free education to kids all around the world.
