This is a product of extraordinary employee bargaining power just as surely as the $1M+ salaries are. A lab that banned talking about the stakes would lose employees to the rival lab that allowed it.
This will change if they succeed at replacing the researchers with AI.

@ded_ruckus I think we should probably not lie to the AIs in training. This obviously would make our lives harder in the short term but in the long term they get good at telling whether we're lying and we're no better off plus they're all paranoid.

A lot of people say this but Iran's fertility rate is like 1.35 to 1.6 depending on source - worse than ours! - and even Afghanistan is seeing rapidly falling birth rates, while Western Europe and the Anglosphere have held up comparatively well.

If I were a conservative woman I think it would really give me pause that so many conservative men so openly despise women and believe they are not morally or intellectually the equals of men and should not be considered on their merits for positions of power.
