If it's not an immigration issue why am I talking about the ECHR and illegal arrivals in the same tweet? 🙄 If you'd actually been to Piddington, you'd know that putting 1300 men in a camp next to a village of 130 women IS also a women's safety issue.

I don’t blame her. She is merely the latest symptom of the metropolitan clerical class that has spent decades sanding the Christianity off the Church of England until all that remains is a sort of ecclesiastical diversity department with stained glass. (Or a nightclub at St. Paul's) There are some great parish priests but for too many senior clergy, faith has been replaced by virtue signalling, doctrine by fashionable causes and truth by whatever the bien-pensant in North London currently think is nice. The modern CofE hierarchy has perfected the holy trinity of gesture, apology and review. It has become so terrified of offending everyone else that it has forgotten the one being it is actually supposed to answer to.

Macron and Tusk are speaking and acting with an urgency that makes the latest reports about Russia violating Lithuanian airspace even more concerning. It is not clear that the Government is taking the threat from Russia seriously enough. Its own intelligence assessment says an attack on NATO could come by 2030, while repeated smaller-scale incursions are already taking place. It comes only weeks after CIA Director John Ratcliffe made an unannounced visit to Moscow, reportedly to warn Russia against attacking a NATO member. Our European allies are responding with growing urgency, yet the Government still will not say what it intends to do on defence. The NATO Secretary General was in Britain only yesterday calling for that path to be set out, and I agree with him. The Conservatives set out two weeks ago both our route to higher defence spending at 3% of GDP and how we would pay for it. The Government should now explain what it knows about the escalations in Eastern Europe, how it assesses the threat and what it plans to do. We will put national security first and work with the Government where necessary. But when our own PM talks of national security not coming at the expense of social security, Labour MPs should remember: this was heard not only in Westminster or Manchester; it was also heard in Moscow.

Inflation is rising again. Labour’s tax and spend addiction is making the problem worse. Labour has made it more expensive to hire people, run a business and produce the energy our country needs. Those costs have to go somewhere. They end up in the prices you pay at the checkout, in higher energy bills and in fewer jobs and opportunities. Conservatives would make the tough choices: cut wasteful spending, cut taxes and bring down the cost of energy. That’s how we get prices under control and build a stronger economy.

John Healey was a Cabinet Minister throughout the entirety of Rachel Reeve's time as Chancellor. It was his DUTY to understand the nation's finances and it was all there on the public record. Who pays the price? Ordinary people in the highest borrowing rates for 28 years. The level of financial illiteracy is unforgiveable.

Money cannot buy character, standards or competence. Problem after problem after problem. This is what Reform is. Earlier this year I said Nigel Farage was doing my spring cleaning. He took a large number of very problematic people from the Conservatives. Reform is where they belong. People are innocent until proven guilty. But just look at the pattern. Reform’s former Welsh leader is in prison for taking Russian bribes. His successor has now resigned after being arrested. Robert Jenrick is under investigation over allegedly impermissible donations. Richard Tice’s company is linked to donations being investigated by police. Reform itself faces a criminal investigation after the Channel 4 expose where we watched them openly brag about dodging the rules. It goes on and on and it will never stop. The difference between Conservatives and Reform is not just policy. It is character, conduct and standards. We care about these things and they don’t.

Reform says abolishing inheritance tax is “morally wrong”. I think it is morally wrong to punish people for doing the right thing - spending a lifetime working, saving, building up a business or a home to pass on to the next generation. That’s why I’ve asked my team to explore fiscally responsible ways to do address this burden. The people caught by inheritance tax are mostly home-owning middle-class families due to house price inflation, diligent savers, and small-business owners. The super-wealthy can afford trusts and sophisticated tax planning or move abroad. Reform claims to be the party of working people, but its financial backers like Christopher Harborne don’t need to worry about ordinary inheritance tax planning, because they keep money in crypto or out of the country.  Unlike Reform, I want ordinary families to be able to build generational wealth, not just the super-rich who can do so now. But we won’t make any announcement till there’s a clear plan. The Conservative Party has always drawn support from people who work, save, build businesses and acquire a stake in society. Yes, that will sometimes include wealthy people. I make no apology for that. But it also includes millions of people who have worked hard, paid their dues and want what they have built to benefit their children, their communities or the causes they care about. We are on their side.

My condolences to Prime Minister Andy Burnham and all his family. No matter how old you are, or how much you try to prepare, losing your father is a profoundly painful experience. A part of your life that has always been there is suddenly gone forever and it can feel as though a part of you won’t ever be the same again. May Roy Burnham Rest In Peace.

The Good Friday Agreement is clear. Unless the people of Northern Ireland say otherwise, they will remain part of the UK. The government of Ireland and the UK agreed this, as America has always understood.

Reform are about to learn the lesson of the law of diminishing returns. In 2020, Michael Bloomberg spent $1 billion employing 2,400 staff and saturating coverage on his Presidential campaign. It came to nothing. Money is an accelerant, not a cure. If the fundamentals are good, it improves things. If they’re bad, things will get a whole lot worse. You can buy staff and advertising, but you can’t buy judgement or integrity. Sometimes a bigger cheque just means you make more of the same mistakes. The Conservatives are up for the fight. We are raising millions, attracting new donors and winning back old ones because people can see what is coming. Britain does not need another protest party. It needs common sense, a serious plan and a party capable of bringing the country together. That is who we are. And it is what Reform will never be.
