I’ve had many conversations since this came out yesterday, and it doesn’t reflect the current state of play. There is a clear path to pass the Clarity Act before the recess on August 7 – and we must seize it. To the crypto community: This is our moment. We can get this done. 🇺🇸

Years of work went into this text. It shows. Robust consumer protections. Tools for law enforcement. Certainty for developers. Substantive ethics requirements. This is a strong bill that secures American leadership in digital assets. Let's get this to the President's desk. 🇺🇸

1/ America just celebrated 250 years – and Congress returns next week with a fitting way to mark it. We have 4 weeks once the Senate returns – keep a close eye on the weeks of July 13 and 20 – to get Clarity done and to the President's desk before the August recess. 🧵

1/ I must be looking at a different version of the Clarity Act. The WSJ story is about sanctioned entities allegedly moving funds through an offshore exchange. The bill I’ve pored over for months includes quite a bit aimed at exactly that kind of risk.

🚨NEW: There is a renewed sense of urgency among GOP lawmakers to get the Clarity Act passed, I’m told. It’s being driven by heightened political pressure following the fallout from the Housing bill, as well as the realization that time is running short. When senators return from recess on July 13, they’ll have just 20 working days (roughly four weeks) to get the legislation through the Senate and back to the House before the August recess. They depart Washington today with a handful of key issues still unresolved, including ethics. But that's not fazing some industry leaders like @a16z's @milesjennings, who says the pressure and time constraints could ultimately create the conditions needed to strike a deal. @SolanaInstitute President @KristinSmith lays out why she believes there's still a path forward to getting the Clarity Act passed next month. ⬇️

Bipartisanship is alive and well in Washington. Thank you @SenatorTimScott for your leadership, @SenLummis for your support, as well as @SenRubenGallego and @Sen_Alsobrooks, and so many others for reaching across the aisle to deliver Clarity for America. There is more work to be done, but I’m optimistic. Let’s make this law.
