Borrow is the other way. Put up a token you already hold, take stables against it, and your exposure doesn't change. The token stays yours, liquidation risk and all, and so does whatever it does next.
The collateral doesn't have to be a major. Long-tail tokens, airdrops you'd written off, tokens the big lending markets won't take. What decides it is whether a lender has an open offer against that token, not whether it made someone's approved list.
The next trade you want to take shouldn't cost you the one you're already in.
