🇺🇳 My first meeting during UN Week in New York was with UN General Assembly President Khalilur Rahman. We discussed a defining question for this session: how can the United Nations strengthen trust and meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world? I believe the answer is clear: stronger diplomacy, focused action and a renewed commitment to working together. At a time of uncertainty, the UN must be a place where dialogue opens doors, cooperation delivers results and shared principles become real progress. The world needs a United Nations that inspires trust — and turns hope into action.

Even during a busy UN week in New York, I was glad there was time to meet Slovaks who keep our language and traditions alive far from home. 🇸🇰🇺🇸 Teachers, graduates and young people from the Slovak community in Chicago told me about the work they do through their school, folklore groups and community life. What matters most is that children growing up in America do not know Slovakia only from family stories. They speak Slovak, learn our traditions and build their own connection to the country their parents and grandparents came from. Thank you for keeping that connection alive.

🇸🇰🇺🇳 Heading to New York for the 81st United Nations General Assembly. For Slovakia, this week is about more than speeches. It is about shaping solutions. We want a United Nations that delivers results, upholds international law, and gives smaller countries a meaningful voice. At a time of war, rising tensions, and declining trust in international institutions, diplomacy must remain active. The United Nations must demonstrate that it can still bring countries together, build consensus, and deliver tangible outcomes.

Next year, the Slovak Republic will commemorate a significant historical milestone—the centenary of the proclamation of Our Lady of Sorrows as the Patroness of our #nation#. 🇻🇦Your Holiness, it would be a profound honor for the Slovak Republic and its people to welcome Your Holiness to our country and to join with you in commemorating this historic anniversary, which unites our heritage with hope for future generations. Did you know that the current World No. 1 in women’s tennis has called Slovakia home for the past six years? Although Elena Rybakina represents Kazakhstan on the international stage, Slovakia has become her second home. She spends part of each year here training and preparing for major matches and tournaments, making our country an important part of her sporting journey. It was therefore a great pleasure to welcome her to the Presidential Palace today and to personally congratulate her on her success at the US Open. 🎾🇸🇰

I deeply appreciated our open and sincere conversation, as well as his heartfelt message to Slovakia: to build bridges, not walls. 🌎 Twenty-five years ago today, #terrorism# sought to plunge the #world# into fear. It failed. We remember the innocent lives stolen on September 11, 2001, and the families and communities forever changed by that terrible day. We honor the first responders and all those who showed extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable danger. The passage of time does not diminish our duty to remember—and it must never weaken our resolve. We will confront terrorism and violent extremism wherever they threaten our people. We will defend freedom, human dignity, and the rule of law. And we will reject hatred and division in every form. Our answer to those who seek to divide #humanity# must be unity. Our answer to hatred must be courage. Our answer to terror must be #peace#. Today, we remember those we lost. We stand with those who still carry the pain. And we reaffirm our commitment to a safer, freer, and more peaceful world. We remember. We stand together. We will never forget. 🇺🇸🇸🇰

TODAY, WE REMEMBER THE VICTIMS OF THE HOLOCAUST AND RACIAL VIOLENCE. It is a day to remember the millions of people whose dignity, freedom and ultimately their lives were taken from them because of their origin, faith or identity. Hatred begins with words. When we tolerate it, it can grow into discrimination, violence and death. That is why we must never forget. We must defend human dignity, freedom and equality, and stand firmly against antisemitism, racism and every form of hatred. Never again.

Slovakia stands in full solidarity with Germany following the Russian hybrid attack in Leipzig. 🇸🇰🇩🇪 Attempts to intimidate our democracies or divide Allies will not succeed. The security of our Allies is the security of us all. We remain steadfast, united, and committed to credible deterrence in defence of our citizens and our shared security.

Adopted 34 years ago, the Constitution of the Slovak Republic provided the legal foundation for the independent and sovereign Slovak state — a goal pursued by generations of Slovaks. It has also proved to be a strong and enduring document whose fundamental principles remain sound. I therefore reject calls to rewrite the Constitution from scratch simply because some political or expert groups disagree with its foundations. Constitutional change should be approached with respect, restraint, and broad political consensus. Amendments may be necessary as society evolves, but they should serve the country, not short-term political interests. Agreement with at least part of the opposition should be the standard for such changes. Today may no longer be a day off, but it remains a state holiday worthy of respect. I wish everyone a meaningful holiday and our Constitution a long life in the service of the Slovak people.

At #BSF2026#, leaders and experts focused on strengthening European security, competitiveness, resilience, and regional cooperation. A clear takeaway: in a more fragmented world, dialogue remains essential. Valuable exchanges with Prime Ministers Peter Magyar, Andrej Babiš, Andrej Plenković, and many other partners helped advance that conversation and identify areas for practical cooperation.

I was pleased to meet Prime Minister @JJansaSDS and discuss how to turn our excellent political relations into concrete results. 🇸🇰🤝🇸🇮 Slovakia and Slovenia have a strong foundation to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, logistics, energy and innovation. We also discussed the strategic role of the Port of Koper, cooperation in nuclear energy, EU enlargement and the importance of a more competitive Central Europe. Our objective is clear: to transform strong political dialogue into practical cooperation that creates opportunities for our businesses and tangible benefits for our citizens.

On the sidelines of the Bled Strategic Forum, I met with Speaker of the National Assembly of Slovenia Zoran Stevanović. 🇸🇰🤝🇸🇮 As a former Speaker of Parliament, I deeply value #ParliamentaryDiplomacy# and the role it plays in building trust between countries. Slovakia and Slovenia have friendly relations with no open political issues. We want to keep this positive momentum also at the parliamentary level. We discussed closer cooperation between our parliaments, regional dialogue, and opportunities to work together in areas where Central Europe can bring practical solutions.

At the Bled Strategic Forum, I was pleased to join President @nmusar for a discussion on Europe’s future. 🇸🇰🤝🇸🇮 Slovakia and Slovenia may often be confused by name, but today we showed that both countries have a clear voice in Europe. We discussed the role of Central Europe, the need for pragmatic foreign policy, and the opportunities and risks of artificial intelligence. Our message is simple: Europe must be able to shape its own future — with more common sense, stronger competitiveness, and practical solutions that deliver real results for our citizens. #BSF2026# 🎥

Today I am in Bled for the 21st Bled Strategic Forum. 🇸🇰🇸🇮 This year’s theme — “The Power to Shape the Future” — captures exactly what Europe needs today: the ability to act, protect its interests, and shape its own future. Slovakia comes to Bled as a constructive partner with a clear message: Europe needs greater security, stronger competitiveness, and pragmatic solutions that deliver real results for our citizens. I look forward to joining President @nmusar for a presidential dialogue and meeting Slovenian leaders on the sidelines of the forum to further strengthen our partnership.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of His Majesty King Harald V of Norway. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family and to the people of Norway. King Harald V leaves behind a remarkable legacy of dignity, humility and devoted service to his nation. Throughout his reign, he was a steady presence in Norwegian public life and a symbol of continuity and unity. Slovakia also remembers his state visit with Queen Sonja in 2010, an important moment in the relations between our two countries. My thoughts are with Queen Sonja, the Royal Family and all those in Norway mourning his passing. May he rest in peace.

On behalf of the people of Slovakia, I extend my deepest condolences to the people of Nepal and China following the devastating disaster that struck the border region on August 26, 2026. We are profoundly saddened by the loss of more than 160 lives and by the anguish endured by the families of those who remain missing. Our thoughts and prayers are with all who have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods in this heartbreaking tragedy. In this time of grief, Slovakia stands in solidarity with the affected communities and expresses its sincere appreciation to the rescue workers, volunteers, and emergency personnel whose courage and dedication are bringing hope amid immense hardship. May those who lost their lives rest in peace, may the missing be found, and may strength, comfort, and resilience guide all those affected in the days ahead.
