🇨🇳China ministries unveil measures to boost RV consumption
China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the CHINA STATE PLANNER, together with eight other ministries, issued measures to promote recreational vehicle (RV) consumption, streamlining RV registration, scrappage and driver training/exam rules. Authorities will study revising the national motor-vehicle classification standard to clarify RV registration requirements. Small/micro non‑commercial self‑propelled RVs will follow the service life rules for small/micro non‑commercial passenger cars and will not face a mandatory scrappage limit; rental small/micro self‑propelled RVs' allowable service life is extended from 15 to 25 years, and travel trailers' from 15 to 20 years. Regions are encouraged to expand driver-training services and add C6 driving-license test centres to ease licensing for RV users.

🇯🇵BOJ hikes 25bp; flags AI, Mideast and FX as upside inflation risks
Bank of Japan raised policy rates by 25bp; vote 7-2 with two dissenters. BOJ said it will continue to raise rates as warranted by economic, price and financial conditions, with no preset timing or pace. Officials will monitor Middle East tensions, AI-driven demand and exchange-rate moves for their effects on growth and inflation. Outlook: economy seen as in a moderate recovery but not decisively strong. Inflation: expectations have edged up; wholesale inflation remains elevated from oil, FX and AI demand, raising the risk that underlying inflation could exceed the 2% target. Press briefing reiterated readiness to tighten further and that no specific measures or timetable are ruled out; committee differences are normal and current divergence of views is not a problem. (

🇯🇵Yen slides after BoJ 25bp hike; intervention risk returns
The yen fell after the Bank of Japan delivered an expected 25bp rate rise, following an earlier hawkish Fed hike that had already pressured the currency. Earlier this month the yen had rallied on bets of faster BoJ tightening, unwind of yen funding arbitrage and speculation that Japanese pension funds would repatriate assets. Strategists warn that if markets conclude the BoJ cannot tighten as fast as the Fed, USD/JPY could move toward 160. With 25bp largely priced in, Friday’s decision or any subsequent communication read as dovish would raise that risk. The latest leg lower has put intervention risk back on the table; officials have stressed concern about the speed and disorderliness of moves rather than a specific level, but another push near 160 could test their tolerance. Traders will watch Governor Ueda’s post-decision press conference for guidance on the pace and scope of further tightening. (

🇯🇵Bank of Japan raises policy rate 25 bps to 1.25%; markets eye follow-up
Bank of Japan raised its policy rate 25 bps to 1.25% on Friday, matching all economists surveyed. The move was the fastest pace of tightening in 36 years, and the gap since June’s hike was the shortest since 1990. Governor Ueda will explain the decision and the near-term rate path at a scheduled press conference. FX markets have shifted focus from whether to hike to how many hikes will follow; several institutions warn the yen could weaken after the decision unless the BOJ signals stronger tightening. A Reuters survey shows markets broadly expect rates to rise to 1.5% by end‑March 2027 and to 1.75% in Q2 2027. (

🇨🇳China maintains independent monetary policy; FX market remains stable
Since August global markets have been choppy but the renminbi has traded broadly stable-to-firmer with two-way swings and China’s FX market has remained orderly, with cross-border flows showing net inflows. Wang Yifeng, deputy director at Everbright Securities’ research institute, said the Fed’s recent hike widened the US–China yield inversion but had been largely priced in and was accompanied by a noticeable rise in US Treasury yields. He described the Fed move as preemptive, aimed at bolstering market confidence amid sticky inflation. Domestic export prospects remain reasonably certain and consumer inflation in China is mild, so the effect of US tightening on cross-border flows is judged manageable. China’s monetary policy remains accommodative with ample liquidity to support real-economy financing, and the renminbi has shown resilience—rate moves in major economies are judged to have limited direct impact on the currency.
