Did you know Ilya Sutskever (@ilyasut) was a @Tesla shareholder in 2015?
Here he is asking @elonmusk about self-driving cars. That same year, Musk helped recruit him from Google to co-found OpenAI.
When Google published the Transformer paper in 2017, Ilya immediately saw what almost nobody else did:
“Drop everything! Start working on the transformer! It’s going to be amazing,” @scmallaby recounts in The Infinity Machine.
The bet was simple: if a model could predict the next word well enough, it wouldn’t just learn grammar. It would start to learn the world.
That bet became GPT. Then ChatGPT.

Dear @X, I have 6 Tesla race cars. I’d like to get an affordable piece of asphalt somewhere in the world where I can at least drive them in a fast circle anytime I’d like and invite guests to do the same. Should be somewhere with little burglary and high respect for property so I don’t have to worry about parking them and traveling. Worth reading
From the context of what a book is capable of doing, which is a lot, this book is civilization level important. Finally someone clearly explains how to operate a company for the new era. No one has written anything like this before. The other books on Musk, for example, are more about relationships and personalities, and don’t explain how to behave as an entrepreneur in this modern way. This book does.
