Is the developer still the kingmaker?
Back in 2020, I wrote that software developers had become the modern-day kingmakers. Every company was becoming a software company, and the people choosing the tools were the people writing the code.
The job has massively changed shape since then. Look at what
@browserbase shipped this week with Stagehand v4, built around what an agent needs from a browser rather than what a human writing a test needs.
Developers still choose the tools. But the old eval model has been upended. Most product and company positioning I see hasn't caught up with this shift.
