The case for making art – part 2. You make art because of the lives you'll touch – even if you only create it for yourself. Art carries a profound ripple effect to those that experience it. During my 1st abroad in China, I became friends with someone whom we didn't know would see again. It was the final few days before I'd leave Beijing. We were sitting together in front of a small pond at night reflecting on some of our last moments together, and I randomly pulled out my phone, opened Spotify, and asked: "Hey, per chance do you want to listen to some music?" It was a composition of mine, called "Stargaze." I thought, it could be fitting. After listening to it, eyes closed, my friend told me: "I've never experienced these emotions before. It's... transcendent. I will never forget this moment. Thank you." A few days later and final goodbyes said, I open the letter written by my friend at the terminal boarding my flight home. There my friend wrote, how they'd silently reflect upon life looking out at the night sky while listening to my music in earbuds. From that point on, I don't think I've ever looked at music the same way again. The words we write, the music we compose, the films we produce – they don't just have meaning. They have depth. They have weight. They have the very essence that can inspire the world. Let your ripple effect reach those to inspire.

The case for making art. You make art because you need to. An urge to express, offload, to put it out there. A feeling you so deeply feel – that to merely contain within you is not enough. Nowhere near enough. So you grab the medium most natural for you. And after you paint the first stroke, you experience a wave of catharsis. You suddenly see the world in all its vivid colors. Where was this all along? As artists, this feeling we seek continues with us. When we drift too far from it, we feel pulled back. We are born in a world where we can't help but see romantically and full of meaning. The highs. The lows. We feel it all. I cannot speak for all artists, but this pull is what gets me going back to art. Every single time. Every day, I yearn for the piano. For the pen. For the brush.
