The most exciting thing for me is that I can finally get back to making @obsdmd plugins. I too was daunted by waiting in the review queue 😅 Now you can get a plugin into Obsidian within 24 hours.
We've been working for nearly a year to launch this new Community site and review system. I'm very excited about this first version but there are many more improvements to come. I've tried to be exhaustive with the blog post, FAQs, and next steps on our roadmap, but I am sure I forgot some things, so feel free to ask! This has been an incredibly challenging project for a number of reasons. We're only seven people but we have thousands of plugin developers and millions of users. There are many competing priorities to balance. We wanted to make sure the new system would be easy to adopt, backwards compatible, and not completely break people's workflows, while still being a major improvement over the old approach, and allow us to gradually continue enhancing security and discoverability of plugins. Consider it a work in progress. We're listening to everyone's ideas and gripes, and will keep iterating :)

@velvet_shark you can use the multi-in Web Viewer plugin or something like
Weird isn't just visual. Weird is whatever strays from the norm. Weird is relative to the current state of the world. You can have weird principles. They should be things people can legitimately disagree with. You have to remember Obsidian was very weird when it launched six years ago. Local files, malleability, backlinks, graph, even Markdown syntax... these were not as widely understood and accepted as they are today. That's why I spent so much time writing essays like "File over app" to try and explain our choices. The goal was to describe why our weird ideas should be normal, and it worked! Now the world has somewhat caught up and accepted those choices, so it's time to find the next frontier of weirdness.

my advice to people making .md apps: make it weirder! .md is the Schelling point what the market wants is more unique and diverse ways to interact with existing .md files
mature things tend to get pressured into being less weird over time, so if you're starting from scratch your advantage is that you can be very weird if you don't start weird you're probably trying to compete inside the local maximum of something more boring than you could be

engagement-bait accounts love to weaponize Cunningham’s law: "the best way to get the right answer on the internet is to post the wrong answer" it's a lose-lose for the target because if you don't reply it allows misinformation to spread, if you do reply it boosts the post

Archivists: was there an app or tool that used a .md domain (for Markdown) before Obsidian?
In good hands There is a feeling I search for: being in good hands. It is the feeling I look to give and the feeling I look to receive. I know I am in good hands when I sense a cohesive point of view expressed with attention to detail. I can feel it almost instantly. In any medium. Music, film, fashion, architecture, writing, software. At a Japanese restaurant it's what omakase aims to be. I leave it up to you, chef. When I am in good hands I open myself to a state of curiosity and appreciation. I allow myself to suspend preconceived notions. I give you freedom to take me where you want to go. I immerse myself in your worldview and pause judgement. I want to be convinced of something new. I want my mind to be changed. Later I may disagree, but for now I am letting the experience soak in. That trust doesn't come easily. As an audience member it's about feeling cared for from the moment I interact with your work. It's about feeling a well-defined point of view permeate what you make. If my mind was changed, I must have been in good hands.

I am building Obsidian Reader because I wonder how the web would feel if it was designed solely around the reading experience. There is so much cognitive burden that comes with every site having different layouts, fonts, ads, popups, cookie banners, engagement traps, etc.

Obsidian Reader also works on mobile using Safari on iOS or Firefox on Android you can set it as the default option when opening Web Clipper
Obsidian Web Clipper now lets you manage highlights, and stays in Reader mode when you click links. It's such a pleasant way to browse the web. You can control the colors, fonts, and easily copy anything to Markdown.

I can't go back to the regular YouTube UI after this 😅 Obsidian Reader now makes the transcript interactive so you can scrub, highlight, auto-scroll. It feels so nice.

I like @karpathy's Obsidian setup as a way to mitigate contamination risks. Keep your personal vault clean and create a messy vault for your agents. I prefer my personal Obsidian vault to be high signal:noise, and for all the content to have known origins. Keeping a separation between your personally-created artifacts and agent-created artifacts prevents contaminating your primary vault with ideas you can't source. If you let the two mix too much it will likely make Obsidian harder to use as a representation of *your* thoughts. Search, bases, quick switcher, backlinks, graph, etc, will no longer be scoped to your knowledge. Only once your agent-facing workflow produces useful artifacts would I bring those into the primary vault.

I have been working on Obsidian Reader for a over a year. I didn't want to share it until I felt it was good enough. It's finally there. Consistent formatting for any article. Outline, syntax highlighting, nice footnotes, adjustable typography. Runs locally. Just rules, no AI.
