After 9 years. 16K+ family homes. 500M sqft inside real homes covered, we know home robots are being built in wrong order. So we built Matic the way nature grows a child. Finally, sharing our vision: 1. Why robots get stuck at the demo 2. Why labs can't ship robots 3. Why we started with eyes, not hands 4. The 99.999% rule in robotics 5. Where Matic is going next 1. Why most robots get stuck at demos Robot demos look brilliant in a room arranged around its limitations: familiar lighting, predictable furniture, nothing troublesome on the floor. A family’s home makes no such accommodations. There are cables, toys, shifting rugs and, occasionally, dog poop. Yes, humanoids will need to avoid that too. Repeating a task under familiar conditions of uncluttered floors is not the same as handling an unfamiliar home with all its chaos. 2. Why labs can't ship robots SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) is how a robot maps its surroundings and locates itself within them. Ask most academics and they'll tell you it's a solved problem. But real homes are the most chaotic spaces that exist. There are glass doors that look like open doorways, mirrors, stairs, rugs, charging cables, and Legos placed all around. So ask yourself: if indoor mapping and navigation is "solved," where are the robots? Why aren't airports, hotels and grocery stores full of them? Calling it “solved” misses the question families actually care about: can I leave this thing alone and trust it? 3. Why we started with eyes, not hands Nature doesn't give birth to a fully working human. We took our cue from how nature develops humans: capabilities built on one another. Children learn to see before they learn to grab, and to grab before they learn to plan and handle the unexpected. Perception comes first. Manipulation follows. More complex responsibilities come after that. At every stage, the robot must earn the next job by doing its current one well enough. Before asking a robot to pick up a sock, we wanted it to understand where it was, where the sock was, and how to reach it. Most of the industry started at the top, with humanoids. We started at the bottom, with a robot whose job is to see and move through a home precisely with 1cm accuracy in any lighting condition. Floor cleaning gave that foundation an immediately useful job. It forced us to confront navigation, clutter, privacy and everyday reliability before reaching for more complex chores. The floor cleaner isn’t a detour from our larger ambition. It is how we’re building toward it. 4. The 99.999% rule in robotics At 90%, one in ten decisions is wrong, and a robot makes thousands in a single clean. That's the robot that bumps, gets lost, and falls down the stairs. Every extra nine is a new mountain. The failures get rarer, harder to find, and exponentially harder to fix. They barely even happen until they happen in your home. Matic's visual SLAM runs at 99.999% in 16K+ homes. We’re the ONLY unsupervised home robot at scale with pure vision-only full autonomy. If you ask us, the gap between 80% and 99.999% is where our 9 years of engineering went. We close that gap inside real homes. When Matic handles something imperfectly, it saves a short clip and keeps it on the device. It only leaves if the family chooses to share it. If they do, it gets labeled, fed back into the model, and every Matic gets smarter, including theirs. Families control what leaves their homes. We do the work of making the product better. Better robots earn trust > trust brings more homes > and more homes teach the robot more. 5. Where Matic is going next Phase one was perception and it's nearly done. Matic has covered 500 million square feet, 400K miles in thousands of real lived-in homes. Now phase two is going to be about manipulation. And our idea is to build a robot that doesn't just move through your home, but acts in it to eliminate even more chores. Each step must be useful today, not justified by something we promise tomorrow. The evolution of Matic is the revolution. The goal isn’t to put the most impressive humanoid in your living room. It’s giving your family time and energy back through robots that earn your trust, protect your privacy, and help without becoming another responsibility. More time for each other. Less work getting in the way. That’s Matic. Get yours today at

What products feel like a life hack? I’ll start: - Eight Sleep - Matic robot - AirPods - Impulse cooktop
I second this. Absolutely love my Matic. I've tried every robot vacuum and they all...suck.
@nvidia just dropped Jetson Orin Nano 2 and @maticrobots are adopting it. Most teams would opt for more compute given the complexity of their autonomy stack. @mehul even said they're going to get their voice-command running fully onboard. Great example of a team that invests into squeezing all the model perf you can get from your onboard compute. Definitely a competitive advantage given their market and scale, especially with this memory/price crunch. More Physical AI co's could learn from them!

First impressions of my Matic: It's much quieter than I expected, I set a schedule for it to run at 2:30am and it's not intrusive. It's powerful, my Dreame ran the day it came, I ran the Matic and it picked up a lot of hair and debris the Dreame missed. The app is fantastic, clean, and easy to use. Live Activities show me real-time status when I'm not using the app and it connects locally over WiFi which is great. Voice control with Matic Cues is unreal, feels like the future. I tell it to follow me and it does, then I point and say "hey matic clean this" and it cleans where I point. Worked every time I tested it (including a kitchen mishap last night 😅). Navigation is very impressive, it navigates around my furniture with thin and complex geometry without issue, has yet to hit anything and does not get lost. The wheels are large and it can get over uneven floors easily, my Dreame struggles with this in my apartment and has gotten stuck multiple times. It has a HEPA bag so it cleans the air, especially important here in Denver with the bad air quality we are experiencing. It seems to be much more efficient with water usage over my Dreame and it is able to actively clean the mop while sucking up dirty water, keeping the floor super clean. If it runs out of water it will go and wait in front of the sink to be refilled with Sink Summon, super cool! I have many more positive thoughts but this is getting long 😅 A few downsides: It does not have a large dock so everything is stored inside the robot. I understand the design decision and agree with it, large docks are noisy and take up more space, but this causes the robot to be too tall to go under my couch or bed. Adding on to that, it stores the dirty water and debris in a single bag which works well as it turns liquid to gel, but I wish I bought mine through a referral so I could have got 1 year of bags included as they will get full fast! Mopping and vacuuming performance is great, but it does not mop edges as well as it could (and it can't extend the mop out to reach farther like my L40 Ultra), this can 100% be improved with updates and I know the amazing team at Matic will continue to improve this product with software updates (they usually release an update every week). It's honestly pretty hard to find negative things about this robot. It has a cute design, performs well, has amazing tech and privacy with a fantastic team behind it. It's only been a day so I will continue to write my thoughts as they come. Being in college, my apartment gets pretty dirty when I have the boys over so it will be doing a lot of cleaning. Great work @mehul and the entire @maticrobots team, you guys rule!

the goal has never to build a cool robot or a humanoid or manipulation its about earning a family's trust, solving their problems, and saving their time a 4 year old spilling things on purpose just to say "hey Matic, clean the playroom" is probably the greatest compliment useful enough to rely on, loved enough to play with families bring home what they trust. that's Matic. ❤️ thank you for your trust, Elizabeth and Sahil. 🙏

The Matic hype on here is crazy. It's also well-deserved. My story: I bought one in 2025 after seeing a few tech people obsessing over it. I was expecting to be disappointed after universally bad experiences with robot vacuums. 30 days later, I bought devices for my parents and sister and was emailing the team convincing them to let me invest. The biggest things for me: - New gesture/voice controls are magical - Runs at night, quiet - Continuous improvements via software - Fun to watch navigate challenges - Son loves it (cool way to talk robotics) - Saves me hours of cleaning per month It feels like a glimpse into future of home robotics in a very familiar way. It's not hard to imagine where this goes as you build up towards full home robotics devices. One real downside: Ever since the voice control release, my 4-year-old thinks it's hilarious to spill things semi-intentionally and call out, “Hey Matic, clean the playroom” just to see it work. 🤣 And yes, they did finally let me invest a tiny amount. Though I'm also a full price, paying customer, because I don't believe in recommending anything to others that I'm not willing to pay for myself.

Ask us how we ship state of the art vision models on the @nvidia Jetson Orin Nano 4GB
Sometimes I look around and realize… I live in the future. 😂 I’m sitting here feeding my daughter while my @maticrobots is vacuuming the floors so they’re clean and ready for my kids’ playtime. I’m taking care of one thing while a robot is literally taking care of another. 🤖 Tech is freaking amazing.

@mehul @Dave_Duggins Ha. Owned. Come on Dave let's see a response..... 🤣🤣
One of the coolest parts of the Matic onboarding experience is watching it map its new world. Pretty mesmerizing seeing it capture where it's going to clean and learning all the nuances of your house!

Good time to bring attention back to this.
Pierre. I can’t reaspond to you on your tweet for some reason. But wanted to explain your concern. 1) user has control of the remote control and they can chose to turn it off. So there is nothing going on the internet. 2) even when you have remote control ON , we have end to end encrypted tunnel between your robot and app. And it only sends map data. Not stream of a video. 3) And no. We don’t have that access to stream ourselves. Ultimately, everything can hacked but we take precautions and constantly monitor. Thanks.

@mehul @Dave_Duggins I don’t think it’s about your intentions (I’m sure they are noble) but more about what happens when your infra gets hacked. If you wanted to see the streams from a vacuum unit could you?

How about you buy it, put it on local WiFi without internet, connect it with iPad app on the same WiFi without internet and if it doesn’t work then tweet at me? I understand the skepticism but if that’s the only approach we take then those us trying to right thing also can’t win. So may be put money where your tweet is just like we are with 6 months return? 😊😇🤗

@maticrobots just did something no other hardware product I’ve owned has ever done: I left for Greece 2 weeks ago with a gen 1 and came home to a gen 2. One software update. Completely new robot. Mind-blowing work from @mehul and the Matic team.

biased but this feels more like agi than anything digital
Just voice summoned my @maticrobots, pointed at the floor where my 6yo had left a bunch of post dinner crumbs and said "matic, vacuum this" and it worked like a charm. Pretty rad!
