When we started planning The Asteroid Scholarship at Space Camp, the first thing I wanted the kids to have was an Asteroid plush.
I reached out to @SpaceX. They generously donated plushies, t-shirts, and stickers for the participants and made sure the younger siblings who weren’t old enough for camp got coloring books, shirts, and stickers too.
After graduation I watched those kids walking around holding their Asteroids.
My heart melted.
Liv would have smiled so big. She would have loved all of it.

We were in Seattle for lymphodepletion and t-cells.
We needed something safe to do.
Liv picked Archie McPhee's and the world’s largest rubber chicken. @ArchieMcPhee
I opened her dresser the other night. There was a rubber chicken on top.
I smiled.
Then I cried.
She had the best sense of humor. Her room is full of those treasures.
We don’t get new ones. That’s the part that hurts.

This is your reminder: it’s still Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month.
To every parent sleeping on a pull-out hospital couch.
To the ones who pushed two chairs together in the ER and called it a bed.
To the ones crying quietly in the shower or the corner so their child doesn’t hear.
To the ones running on endless coffee and complete emotional exhaustion.
I still see you.
The scars from that chapter don’t fade. They just become part of who you are.
You are not invisible.

Five years ago today we met Jared in person for the first time, at the Inspiration4 splashdown party.
From that day on he made sure Liv got to live.
Her last five years held more than most adults get. He didn’t have to keep showing up. He did. That is Jared.

This smile is one year old today.
My Liv.
I’m running out of pictures of her.
There will never be a new one.
I miss her smile every single day. 💔
This week I’m at Space Camp with families who already know how terrible this disease is.
Being here is healing and heartbreaking at the same time. I wish I could take away their heartbreak and the scars that come with a child’s cancer diagnosis. I hope this week is as healing for the parents as it is fun for their kids.

Eight months ago today I had to say goodbye to Liv.
My heart will forever be shattered.
But this week I’m blessed to be honoring her at Space Camp — the place that fed her dreams of the stars.

Two years ago today, Polaris Dawn launched and they released Liv’s Asteroid video.
The @PolarisProgram tag still says “In honor of Liv P.”
The @SpaceX mascot tag says “In memory of Liv P.”
She was here to watch Asteroid fly with Polaris Dawn.
She was gone before he became the SpaceX mascot.
Her name is still on both.

After surgery to remove the spot on her lung, we took her to Antarctica.
We hesitated. We said yes anyway.

This was Liv's first Asteroid from the @spaceX shop after Polaris Dawn.
She took him to her six-month scans. You can see the fear in her eyes. It hurts so much to notice that looking back.
Two days later they found the spot on her lung. One year after that scan, we were told to start palliative care.

Liv was so sick here.
We were in Seattle for her clinical trial. Cancer was everywhere in her body. That’s a wig. She tried so hard to hide her pain.
She found the Tesla Bot and tried to talk me into buying a Cybertruck that day. She dreamed of having a Miku wrapped Cybertruck and an Optimus robot.
Pediatric cancer doesn’t always look like what people think it looks like.

Liv was already end of life before the FDA approved the experimental trial we were waiting for.
We were ready to fly to California.
She died 12 days later.
“Accelerate childhood cancer cures” only matters if a kid can still get on the plane.
Do it for the ones who still have time.
We never quit. Not then. Not now. Thank you President Trump.
