I was encouraged this week to see the leaders of the frontier labs agree on the need for them to slow down the pace of AI development. Given the stakes, it’s a good and necessary first step.   But I’m even more encouraged by the growing recognition that how this powerful new technology develops should be at the center of our public debate.   I’ve been watching the progress on AI for over a decade now, and one thing that’s clear to me is that the potential impact of this technology is not overhyped. It’s also moving at lightning speed – and even faster than those who are engineering it can keep up with.   I’m not an AI accelerationist who believes it will lead to some techno-utopia, and I’m not a doomer who thinks it will inevitably lead to humanity’s destruction. But whether this technology results in amazing breakthroughs in medicine, energy and education or unleashes huge economic disruptions, greater inequality, and potential catastrophe will depend on the choices that we make right now – choices that should be made not just by the companies involved, but by all of us.

New hack for those of us telling Codex to ELI5 all the time
personalized shopping with Astra is unbelievable I did something similar with GPT-5.6-Sol (not on ultrafast) and while Sol got the job done, Astra did a way better job on reproducing my like (face + body) and was ~4x faster (1 hr 33 min versus 4 hr 24 min)

PSA: Astra can see your remaining usage % in Codex and keep it in mind while running a /goal so you can give it a budget in plain English like: “keep going until i’m down to 25%, or until you've solved it”

Everyone's talking about Astra, but Luna is over here crushing it with very little fanfare – #1# on OpenRouter! It's a good good model.
my god
We will give one banked reset for every day you don't have access to Astra on your paid ChatGPT plan, starting today. Team is moving mountains to give access as fast as we can. First one will land in ~ 3 hours. There is still time to create your account if you don't have one.

GPT-6 Astra recreated the Palace of Fine arts in Blender. This is favorite building in San Francisco because it was built for the World's Fair in 1914 where the steam locomotive and telephone were showed off. It was a time when technology gave us all a deep sense of optimism for the future. I feel like some of that sense has been lost since, but I hope models like astra can help restore it, and push us towards a more hopeful future.

This is one of my favorite films I’ve made at OpenAI. I’ve loved the original Put That There film forever and it’s inspired a lot of the work I’ve done here. When I saw what Astra could do I knew what we had to do

Onboarding at OpenAI is one of the fastest I have ever experienced. Step 1) login to Slack Step 2) download and login to ChatGPT. That’s basically it. Anything in this company can be driven from here, and it comes readily configured. You can figure out how to do anything or find the right person for anything. All workflows and tools integrate well into Slack and so you don’t have to leave these two surfaces. This is the future of onboarding and enables engineers to ship on day one at scale. I didn’t think it was possible to keep this velocity at this scale, but it is.

This week’s ChatGPT feature drop - Aug 28: The team won't let me take a week off with these posts. Here's what we shipped 🚀 this week: 1/ Scheduled tasks for free users: Now anyone can create recurring tasks for ChatGPT. "Every Thursday, tell me about cool events happening this weekend nearby". 2/ Stickers: Use Imagegen to turn any photo into a sticker pack to share on iMessage or WhatsApp. If you like stickers in iMessage, this one's for you. 3/ Save temp chats: By popular request, you can now save a temporary chat to your sidebar after you've started it. You can also choose to use memory for temp chat. It's a nice quality of life improvement! 4/ Multiple accounts for Google plugins: Lots of people ask ChatGPT questions about their email and calendar (only available for paid users for now). You can now add more Google accounts so you can ask about all your accounts! 5/ Voice widgets in lock screen: Voice conversations now show things like weather and sports in the iOS Live Activity, even when your screen is locked. See you next week!

I used the visualize skill in ChatGPT to help me create a custom pantry for my new house. It’s seriously as easy as saying $visualize it.
ChatGPT can now do your groceries, book an Uber, get you that haircut appointment (hint hint), and much more. All without ever seeing your actual credentials and keeping it secure.

one of my favorite slack triggered tasks - every time there’s an update in my team’s datadog alerts slack channel, root cause the issue immediately and post back in the thread
@rennsong I'm about to get so much better at slack
fun chatgpt power user feature - press cmd+enter to send your prompt in the background queue up a ton of tasks at once and let the model notify you when it's done 🧑‍🍳
