A recent study found that poor sleep and depression share a common profile that can be predicted, in part, by everyday lifestyle factors. Eight experts have peer reviewed the preprint on ResearchHub, giving it an average score of 3.5/5 ⭐️ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀: • Rarely confiding in others • Too much sedentary TV time • Low physical activity • Secondhand smoke exposure The model held up across independent datasets, including patients with clinical depression, suggesting these modifiable factors could be useful targets for prevention. 🎥 Meet Kenan, the researcher behind a live ResearchHub proposal. Nearly every case of ALS involves a protein called 𝘛𝘋𝘗-43, but scientists still don’t fully understand how it drives disease. In this video, Kenan explains how his lab discovered something unexpected in a fruit fly model: inflammation doesn’t stay where the neurons are damaged. It appears to spread throughout the body. His team at @EPFL is now investigating 3 key questions:   1. What’s carrying the inflammatory signal?   2. Which receptors are detecting it?   3. The White House just dropped new guidance about the future of science. It looks very different from today's science: new alternatives to peer review, funding aimed directly at individual scientists, and a push to move faster than the current system allows. We had this conversation ten days ago. On July 11th, we hosted Catalyst NYC, bringing together leaders from NCATS, NSF, and a variety of other powerhouse institutions to discuss exactly these questions: how do we accelerate translational science, and reform outdated systems to help research move faster? 🎥 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗛𝘂𝗯-𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁. Last year, the ResearchHub community and @dmtquest raised $250k in funding for Dr. Richard Harris’ investigation of how 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 reduces pain for those with fibromyalgia. If energy healing can reduce pain levels, HOW is this happening? Dr. Harris has three theories: 1. It's merely a placebo effect. 2. The energy healer is engaging the patient's brain in a specific way that drives pain relief. 3. It's something else, beyond our current understanding of neuroscience. The study is now underway. Using EEG brain imaging, Dr. Harris and his team at @UCIrvine are investigating whether any brain signals shared between the patient and energy healer can explain the effects. Peripheral artery disease affects 200M+ people worldwide, and restoring blood flow isn’t enough to repair damaged muscle. @WesternU researcher @HaoYin20 raised $10k on ResearchHub to investigate why. Now published as a Stage 1 Registered Report in @RHubJournal, Hao's project will test whether Sirt6 loss in vessel-support cells triggers a “senescence secretome” that actively blocks muscle recovery after ischemia. If confirmed, it could point to new therapeutic targets for one of the world's most common vascular diseases. Track the project here:

Our pipeline for science funding, publishing, and tracking is working. Here's the proof: AGEs are sugar-damaged proteins that accumulate with age and drive chronic disease, yet remain largely untargeted. @Stanford researcher @KejunYing raised $10k on @ResearchHub to address this. The project will design 10,000 AI-generated proteins and screen top candidates for binding to AGE-modified proteins. A first test of whether de novo protein design can target glycation damage. The project is now posted as a Stage 1 Registered Report in @RHubJournal, where progress will be tracked openly in real time.
