The first slot time reduction feature is now live on Solana testnet.
SIMD-0525 is active on testnet, reducing slot time from 400ms to 350ms as the first of four feature-gated steps toward 200ms slot time.

Important update for validator operators.
Solana mainnet validators can now register a BLS pubkey, a prerequisite for Alpenglow.
This week, a second feature gate, the Validator Admission Ticket (SIMD-0357), goes live. Once VAT activates, validators without a BLS pubkey stop participating in consensus and stop receiving inflation rewards.

Having personally run the last few governance votes by manually issuing tokens to validators and providing tally tools - a painful and manual process - this is an incredibly important step forward for Solana governance.
Validators are a truly decentralised and globally distributed set of network guardians and a network that enables them to represent views based on the stake entrusted to them is critical to long term health and safety of the network and ecosystem.
