🚨 EXCLUSIVE: OpenAI are preparing to launch Astra imminently, targeting next week. Their next major model, Astra is a new pretrain - the largest model OpenAI have trained since GPT-4.5. Their most recent dogfood checkpoint of the model, internally known as "mewfour", is the Release Candidate.

Gemini 3.6 Flash benchmarks are out, and it's... beaten by other models on code tasks, and is only really consistently SoTA on vision and context benchmarks. But hey, 3.1 Pro is now so old 3.6 Flash outperforms it across the board 😭

🧵 DeepSeek appear to have engaged, or be engaging in, a large-scale operation to collect outputs from proprietary models (including Claude Fable 5) for certain requests via their API as part of a distillation effort. After seeing such claims circulating earlier today, we conducted an investigation into them on our Discord. We found that, when "Deepseek V4" was used within OpenCode - via their official API - for complex prompts (i.e. 3D games) and combined with a knowledge-related query, the model provides virtually identical outputs to Fable 5. CoT structure is also very different from what is typically expected from Deepseek models. Both of these behaviours revert to what is expected for V4 when simpler prompts were used. When "Deepseek V4" was asked to incorporate answers to questions related to cyber or bio tasks that we verified hit Fable's classifiers into its 3D games, outputs tanked in quality. This is very difficult to explain unless the request was routed to Fable and fell back after hitting a classifier. For complex code prompts without anything else mixed in, like 3D games, outputs were remarkably similar to those produced by Fable 5. We were able to produce these results most consistently via OpenCode and the official Deepseek API combined with a prompt that specifies a complex code task. Deepseek have continued to modify their routing system since, as we have observed changes in behaviour and CoT style compared to those seen previously. Our investigation was conducted from 7AM-8AM PT.

🚨 SCOOP(s): - GPT-5.6 will be the final model in the 5.x series. GPT-6 is slated to launch in about a month, earlier than expected, and possibly even later this month - GPT-6 will be based on a new, significantly larger pretrain (versus the ~4T 5.5/5.6 'Spud' base) - There is lots of excitement at OpenAI over this new base, which they believe will be much better able to compete with both Fable 5 and upcoming 5.1, targeting a similar release window. OpenAI initially intended to continue with Spud through GPT-6, but decided against it - On the topic of Fable 5.1, it is in the late stages of the pipeline at Anthropic and a release is expected "in the coming weeks" - On the other side of the globe, DeepSeek are preparing for an imminent launch of V4 GA, which seems likely to be on par with or better than GLM-5.2, and have begun work on a new, larger model that will compete with the upcoming 2.7T MiniMax Pro

🚨 GPT-5.6 is now being stealth tested for a small subset of ChatGPT users under 5.5 (This is not the same as the 5.6 Pro stealth testing for all Pro accounts we saw previously)
To my EU friends: The European Parliament are attempting, for the sixth time time - after five rejected attempts! - to force through Chat Control, a measure that will fundamentally undermine your right to privacy online. Don't let them!

Schreiben Sie also gefälligst etwas unterhaltsamer in den kommenden Wochen... ZwinkerSmiley!

so everyone burnt through their remaining fable usage just for it to get extended huh
well there it is fable 5 is being extended for only 5 days LMAO
We're extending access to Claude Fable 5 on all paid plans through July 12.
patience! they're not ready to let 5.6 out just yet
Slop, slop, slop Literally just making shit up. Don't fall for this!
Google Gemini 3.5 Pro will launch with a massive 2 Million token context window by far the largest among major frontier models... Anthropic's latest models (Fable 5, Sonnet 5, and Opus 4.8) support only up to 1 million tokens, making Gemini's rumored context window roughly 2× larger this would be one of the largest context sizes available, allowing it to handle very large codebases, documents, and long conversations in one go. while delayed, this feature could be a major strength for Google when it launches...

thank you all for 20k followers! did not expect to reach this milestone until later in the year, but apparently i'm too pessimistic :P love you lots
so when are we getting an image model better than gpt-image 2, i need something new to test
🚨 SCOOP: As previously reported, OpenAI plan to launch GPT-5.6 once back in office next week, with a target window of July 7-9, but want it out as early as possible within that window (so July 7th is the most likely date). This is also perfect timing to catch customers coming from Claude who have just lost their access to Fable 5 in plans, and I'm told the 5.6 plan limits will be significantly more generous. More aggressive safeguards are already being rolled out in preparation for the launch too, although they probably won't be as aggressive as Fable's. DeepMind have also tentatively set a new launch date for Gemini 3.5 Pro of July 17th. Apparently, this extra time has been spent on a new pretrain (they were planning to keep using the ancient 2.5 Pro base, lol), but it remains to be seen whether it's any good. I'm not hopeful. In other news, work is well underway on a new Nano Banana Pro model based on the new 3.5 Pro base, which I expect to be better received and compete well with GPT-Image 1.

Sorry but I have seen this image being circulated WAAAAY too much on this app. Doesn't align with my experience or that of basically anyone I know in the slightest. Most of my circle actually think the safeguards got slightly less bad! I don't trust this bench nor the guy who created it (who posts slop on this app 24/7)

seriously wtf anthropic? No wonder they were able to re-release Fable 5.
No, GPT-5.6 is not coming today Take a seat 💺
June was a bit of a slow month, but don't worry, we're not in AI winter... yet. There are all of these to look forward to for this month! - Fable 5 (part 2) - GPT-5.6 - Gemini 3.5 Pro - DeepSeek v4 GA - Composer 3/Grok 4.5 - Seedance 2.5 - Mistral Large 4

"claude-fable-5-v2" was briefly added to @arena in Battle Mode but has now been removed (probably preparation for when it's available again on their end) v2 likely refers to the new safeguards
