I don't think people are ready for when Sonnet gets updated and it's a similar performance jump to Opus 5 -> 5.5
Looks like OpenAI leaked it before I could (lol). One of their big DevDay launches is "o", a competitor to products like Grok Bot and Hermes Agent, powered by a variant of Astra called "aeon" designed to be better at long-running tasks. This has been in the works for months but xAI beat them to it

Why does Astra (and every GPT model, for that matter) feel the need to force obnoxious one-liners and text everywhere? It's so bad, one of the biggest giveaways of GPT-generated content, and it even extends to GPT-Image ๐ซฉ

For what it's worth, I've observed ~0 change in Opus 5.5's performance. I think in a lot of cases it's just people discovering weaker areas and edge cases in the days after a model's initial honeymoon
I hate to break it to everyone, but Opus 5.5 has been nerfed starting the last few hours today.
Autistic Claude speak is back, it's doing really dumb shit & this is not the same model I was using the last 2 days.
Confirmed this on multiple accounts, it's turned into an idiot.

Using Claude regularly again has made obvious one of the biggest differences between Anthropic and OpenAI models: taste
GPT (Astra included) just doesn't really compete. Sure, you can get ~similar quality outputs with enough prompting, time and effort, but Opus 5.5 just combines great taste, intuition and vision in a way no model before it has. While being incredibly usage-light in Claude subs, something that cannot be said about Astra
A big step in the right direction in all sorts of ways for Anthropic, and I'm excited to see what they have in store soon for Haiku, Sonnet and Fable

Claude has discovered a previously unknown enzyme system hidden in the DNA of bacteriophages. Beside the enzymeโs gene sits a long array of repeating DNAโa structure that looks somewhat similar to CRISPR.
We donโt yet understand what this system does, but only a handful of known systems share its features, and all of them are able to cut, copy, and paste DNA. Historically, the discovery of such programmable systems has helped revolutionize medicine. CRISPR, for instance, is now the foundation of genetic medicines. But it will take much more work to learn what this system does, and whether it can be put to similar use.

Claude Opus 5.5 is a very, very good model. Practically everyone at OpenAI was caught off-guard by this launch (not the timing, but the performance of the model!), and there's now a pretty "all hands on deck" atmosphere for 6.1 Astra - timelines are being compressed.
But it'll face Fable 5.5! The RL magic really needs to do its work here

As expected, unfortunately the only bad thing about the new Opus is it's a token-gobbling monster. Uses the most tokens per Intelligence Index task of any model benchmarked.
The price cut makes more sense here!

Claude Opus 5.5 (max with fallback) scores 58 on Artificial Analysis's Intelligence Index, a 5-point (!!!) jump over the previous SoTA, Fable 5.1 and 6 Astra. 1st by far.
I don't think 6 Sol is going to compete here tbh. Opus is a beast!
